Anyone here ever Hot flashed a BIOS before?
« on: November 15, 2004, 08:06:14 AM »
I got a big problem with my CPU / MOBO combo, the BIOS in my new board (ABIT AV8) can\'t recoginze my skt 939 Athlon 64 (winchester 90nm).  It can recognize it with a BIOS update, but it\'s hard to friggin update the BIOS when your board won\'t even f***ing POST!  It works just fine out of the box with the older 130nm A64\'s

I\'ve read all over the place about these guys hotflashing their BIOS\' but it seems like an unecessary risk.  I know I could just buy another board like the ASUS A8V, but I got it all set-up and ready to go.  Either way it seems like a pain in the ass.

I\'ve already requested an RMA from Newegg and they approved it... with a 15% restock fee   But I got a week to try a few things.

I\'m really not liking ABIT right now

:(

all about this little problem

Try getting a cpu that suits the board then flash it.

Or set the dip switch settings to a lower CPU setting of the same type that it can run with.  Downclocking cpus won\'t damage them..

do they sell a BIOS chip removal tool at Radio shack?  Or I guess I could just use something like a needle to pry it out?

I\'m just worrying about frying my buddies computer since you have to do all this chip swapping with the computer turned on.
