Buying New PSU
« on: November 12, 2004, 04:37:43 AM »
My Justcooler 400watt psu has shit itself.

So i\'m buying a new psu.

Either...

Thermaltake 480W Power Supply
or
Antec True Power 480W.

Right now i\'m moving towards Tt simply because my system is pretty much entirely Tt case wise..

Any reason why i should go Antec over Tt?

or any other PSU thats around 150aud thats even better?

i could research this, but i\'m sure most of you guys that have just built pcs have... ;)

get THE OCZ POWERSTREAM 470 OR 520, or the Fortron 400 or 520, both these units are stellar and they are underated for power(conservative rating) unlike those other companies that overrate there units(basically lie and cheat the consumer). Plus they both maintain stable rails that are adjustable. I know u live in Aussie, but they must sell one of the 2 I listed above.

F**k thermaltake(worse than antec),  both units are handy for holding my books up in place.

Thermaltake 480W Power Supply =has to be worse than antec

Antec True Power 480W at 20c-unrealitic temp =300w at best 45c

Soulgrind,

If you go Antec, then get the Neo Power480
link

I dunno Thermaltake\'s psu\'s myself, so I can\'t comment on them.

Right now I have a Tagan480. Very very good psu which comes with a EMI shielded main powercord and it also has a dedicated line for the videocard, it\'s also EMI shielded.

11 Ampere on the 12Volt line with a +/- fluctuation of 5 % ?

Hah ! Don\'t complain, nor blame the videocard when a Geforce 6800 will run like sh1t on that psu. C\'mon, everybody knows a 6800 needs 18 A as a bare minimum.

i can get the OCZ powerstream but its just alittle to much out side my budget, its 200 AUD. I\'m looking for 150AUD or under only. I\'ll probably end up getting the antec. I\'ve seen alot of people complain about Tts psus. I\'m pretty sure it\'ll be stable enough to run all the crap thats in my pc.\'

Well, I\'m getting the Antec True Blue 480W PSU.  Antec seem to have a good rep with PSUs and its fairly cheap, 140AUD.    Hopefully it is truely, true blue...    true blue being that aussie slang ;)

Reviews here here here and here

I\'ll end up sleevin it like i did with my old psu.

Yeah, the Antec\'s great alright. The Truepower380S which came with my Antec Sonata case is very good as well (i didn\'t use the \'fan only\' connectors though). I have it now in the box, as back up PSU, now I have the Tagan480 installed (28A on +12V ;) ).

What kind of sleeves will you use Soulgrind ?

Just mesh and heatshrink.  Not UV reactive stuff though.
