Not if the costs are used to help those in need. We spend WAAAAAY more on defense than even our closest competitor. You can\'t tell me that this country could not afford to strip one billion dollars off of our defense budget to use in our schools and/or communities. Democratic or Republican the mass media is generally subservient to the government. Political investigations generally consist of calling the politician(s) in question and asking them if they are guilty. You are confusing republicans with conservatives. While most conservatives are republican not all republicans are conservative. Conservatives do not like government interferance but Bush has shown that he, like Clinton before him, has no problem with the Government interfering in the activities of corporations.

FWIW, The last conservative president was Reagan.

Reagan did some sneaky sh*t and people were weaping when he died (disobeying treaties by doing nuke tests and putting extra planes in the air to show the communists that we can kick their arses). I know thats different from invading a country thats wasnt involved in 9/11, but EVERY president lies. Media lies. everyone lies. Thats why im not pro or anti-bush. Maybe in the future we\'ll find out what really went on to lead to invading iraq. Im skeptical of it because he said since day 1 he was thinking about Sadam, then jumped immediately on the chance he had to invade them. Which is the main reason im not pro bush.

And i dont think we can let up on defense yet. Especially at a time of war. It would be nice to, but we still have to be wary of it. Next thing we know we get attacked again, people die, and i cant even imagine the hatred towards bush.

Yeah I know that in times of war the defense budget goes up but even before the war we were above and beyond. I think we spend something like $35 billion per year while our closest competitor (China or Russia. I can\'t remember) spends $5-7 billion. I\'m not saying we should cut a whopping portion just that we could afford to cut a little off the top to fund or support social/economic development.
