E3: First Day Impressions
« on: May 18, 2005, 06:03:07 PM »
I\'ve been trying to keep up with everything, and I just finished watching G4\'s coverage of the first day.  I\'ll only comment on the games I\'m watching. Here\'s what I think:

Gears of War
The most impressive game I\'ve seen thus far, and is quickly becoming my most anticipated of the Xbox 360 titles.  This game looks intense.

Lost Odyssey
One of Mistwalker\'s RPGs; this one has me questioning whether or not it\'s real-time.  I heard it is using the Unreal 3 engine so I\'m inclined to believe it actually is in-game footage I witnessed.  Not very much was shown but enough to get me excited over next-gen RPGs.  Bring it.

Kameo: Elements of Power
This is the one game I\'m really trying not to set myself up for disappointment, but the Rare fanboy in me is praying it turns out to be nothing less than stellar.  It looks great, but with all the delays I can\'t help wonder if the gameplay will match...

Conker: Live and Reloaded
There\'s really nothing new there except the extensive multiplayer experience.  As long as Rare left the original intact it\'ll be great, and one of my most anticipated summer purchases.

Perfect Dark Zero
Okay, I\'ve read on IGN that it was shown behind closed doors...and that it rocks.  Douglas Perry said the shots floating around do not represent the game; the build he witnessed is close to Gears of War in quality.  Couple the stellar sounding visuals with the new features he described and I\'m all giddy about it.

The Darkness
This one is now on my watch list.  It\'s coming from Starbreeze, the makers of Chronicles of Riddick (means it will probably be good), and showcased some pretty visuals.

Zelda: Twilight Princess
It looks fucking spectacular.

I hadn\'t seen in-game footage until today and seeing Link change into a wolf caught me off guard.  I was a bit shaken by it at first, but then I reassured myself that this is Zelda and it will be no less than classic when it comes out.  The graphics are impressive to say the least, and it looks beautiful in motion.

I don\'t like the name.

Jak X
Seeing it in motion--smooth, surprisingly fast, sweet motion-- has me excited for the new racing title.

Ratchet: Deadlock
I love the Ratchet & Clank series, just love it.  I\'m not that crazy about the more mature Ratchet, but I\'m confident it will be fun.

i8
This one is now on my watch list, but that\'s mostly due to the developer (Insomniac).  It was one of the few games that actually looked like in-game play, and I like what little I\'ve seen.
