I have created include pages for a Web site (header, contents, footer) - I insert these pages into my index page; they work perfectly in design view, but once published the include pages do not appear. I receive no errors whatsoever.

I have tried both dreamweaver mx 2004 and frontpage 2003 and get the same behavior in both applications.

What could possibly be wrong once published?

Use SmartFTP to transfer all your files from your harddrive to your web space, not the embedded transfer method within the WYSIWYG editors.

Can you give us a link to your site so we can get a glimpse of your problem?

here is the published site - only a table with the "included" page inserted, but the included page does not show.

here is the preview of the index in frontpage - the included page "header" appears as desired...

 

thank you for your time.

edit: if i change header.htm to display "header changed" it is reflected correctly instantly in index.htm, but is the includes are not shown once published.

Hi Rich, I got your PM.

Here\'s the best way to do it:

1) Download SmartFTP: Link.

2) Enter in the address, username, and password you use to access your webspace.

3) Upload the files (*.html pages, images) to the public directory.

I tried using Dreamweaver\'s built-in FTP program back in the day but it just gave me problems.

I came accross someonw with the same problem on another forum, he was told to do the following:

You need to do SSI within an Active Server Page (one with the .asp extension). Or alternatively, you need to tell IIS that it should analyze and process .htm pages before it gets sent down to the client. To do that, you need to:

1. Start up Internet Service Manager
2. Select the web site you want to do the processing on
3. Right click on it and select Properties
4. Select Home Directory
5. If necessary, create an application
6. Press Configuration
7. Select .asp and press Edit
8. Copy down the information in the dialog
9. Press Cancel
10. Press Add
11. Use the file extension .htm, use all the other information that you copied down in step 8
12. Press OK to all the dialogs
13. Restart IIS for good measure

I did this, no luck :(

and this is exactly what I see on the provided link.   Is it possible your saving to another index page in a different folder?  sounds stupid, but I have made mistakes like that in the past. Also, try http://www.flashfxp.com/index.php

I\'m trying to FTP, but i do not know that much about FTP. I manage to connect to the remote server, but I\'m unable to get to the correct folder, once connected I\'m always at root and cannot browse server.

Is this correct:


I get the following error in the FTP client:

550 C:\\Inetpub\\wwwroot\\test: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
