"In the next generation frame rate will become much less important," says Wilson, "because when you apply HDR and these lighting effects and run with motion blur, you can\'t tell the difference at 60. You don\'t notice that much difference because the motion blur takes a lot of it away." We\'ll have to wait until we\'re playing it to decide if he\'s got a point, but watching the two of them pound through a Tokyo circuit it\'s obvious to see why they\'re having to work hard to optimise the game.

I dont like some of his statements.60 fps less important?

Except... they don\'t really stand out. PGR3\'s visuals may be hugely detailed, but there is a feeling of artificiality to them - as if they\'ve been constructed more than they\'ve been designed. Whether this will bother anybody who simply wants to play a gorgeous racing game is best left to the reviewers, but it\'s something we definitely noticed - perhaps best illustrated by the way that awnings on buildings, for example, aren\'t actually protruding. This is still a game of flat blocks, even if they\'re blocks mapped with ridiculously high-resolution textures.

I dont think it will mind people much.

The quality of the pics I think make up for it especially considering it\'s a launch title.Gorgeous!

But the controls...60fps play an important role at how a car feels and handles.

Looking sweet.Well.....I dont know. Will it bother anyone?

Ehem... I\'m with mm on this one. No 60 fps? That\'s fucking pathetic. Cut down on those "super high resolution textures" and give us 60 fps. And try actually modelling shit instead of using textures, that\'s so 90\'ties. Barf.

If it has motion blur, you won\'t care.

Movies run at 24 fps, and we don\'t find them choppy because of motion blur.

Lock it at 30 fps, and give in input/ai 60+ cycles a second, and I\'ll be happy.

I\'m sorry, but that\'s a bad argument. You know how long filmmaker\'s are adviced to make a pan last for it not to look choppy? Seven seconds. And we\'re not talking about a slow pan here, but a game that\'s supposed to be super fast. 30 fps doesn\'t substitute 60 fps - motion blur or not.

While this little conversation is going on, I actually read the damn article.

The beta versions have always been running at 15, then 30fps, and they\'ve CONSTANTLY said that they\'re going to aim for 60. I see nowhere a statement that the final game will run at 30fps. The topic title is misleading.

Samwise, you are right.

Agrees, 60 fps shouldn\'t be an issue.  I hope Bizarre makes their goal.

To tell you the truth probably I was the one who was mislead by the text and forum from which I got the link. The developers dont seem bothered with the game currently running at 30fps so I got that impression

I ll edit the title

edit:I am trying to edit the title but I cant. Can someone do it for me and make it like the subject above my post?

Pretty much anything that are film are being edited in 24fps for playback.  The most common type of film are 35 mm, maybe lower budget may uses 16 mm and top quality may go to 70 mm film.  The size of the film, not to be confused with speed/frame rate...

But those type of film are still being edited out as 24 fps for playback in movie theather.  Because they want to cut cost, so they didn\'t bother using higher than 24fps.  And film projectors play them back at 24 fps too, nothing more and maybe nothing less.

Some projectors use twice the refresh rate than the framerate to reduce flickering when viewing.  More expensive projectors may refresh 3x the amount of framerate being shown per second.

That means, each of the frames may repeat 2x or 3x to get 48 or 72 fps to sync with refresh rate.  Again, I am just guessing about repeating the frames, but I do know film projectors runs at either 48 Hz or 72 Hz though to reduce or elimate flickering (72 Hz)...
