The story: (no link, I made it all up)
Nintendo will add a free service for the DS allowing users to download game demos, movie trailers and other content through the system’s local wireless capabilities. They will also launch voice chat capability for the upcoming title Metroid Prime: Hunters.
Nintendo will install kiosks at thousands of retailers, including GameStop and Best Buy. DS owners who come within range of the kiosks will be notified of the available downloads. The content will remain on the DS until the system is turned off.
Metroid Prime: Hunters, Nintendo’s next DS offering to utilize Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, will be capable of voice chat with opponents though the use of the system’s built-in microphone. Players will be able to use the voice chat before and after matches, according to Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo’s executive vice president of sales and marketing, but not during play.
Nintendo is planning on launching the new services in late March, likely coinciding with the March 20 release of Metroid Prime: Hunters.
UPDATE
Nintendo has released more details on the upcoming DS Download Service. Users can download the demos and other media by selecting “DS Download Play” on their system startup screen. There is no limit on how many downloads can be made. The first download kiosks will include demos of:
Tetris DS
Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day
Mario Kart DS
Meteos
True Swing Golf
Pokemon Trozei
The download stations will also include a video clip of Metroid Prime: Hunters. Downloadable content through the kiosks will be updated quarterly. Voice chat for Hunters will be available with those on your friends list.
