Japanese show purchasing trend
« on: September 05, 2006, 03:37:57 AM »
This surprised me. A week before the Black DS Lite arrived and sold out, Japanese gamers posted these sales numbers:

The Nintendo DS completely owned the Japanese sales charts last week.
According to the latest Media Create numbers, every single one of the top ten best-selling games in Japan between August 21 and 27 was a DS title, with Square-Enix\'s highly anticipated Final Fantasy III leading the way. Here\'s the breakdown:
1. Final Fantasy III (Square Enix, Nintendo DS) - 503,051
2. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo, Nintendo DS) - 65,5537
3. Rune Factory (Marvelous Entertainment, Nintendo DS) - 42,210
4. Brain Training 2 (Nintendo, Nintendo DS) - 41,784
5. Cooking Navigator (Nintendo, Nintendo DS) - 37,326
6. Tamagotchi no Puchu Puchi O-Misecchi (Namco Bandai, Nintendo DS) - 30,504
7. Mario Hoops 3-on-3 (Nintendo, Nintendo DS) - 30,355
8. Animal Crossing: Wild World (Nintendo, Nintendo DS) - 30,023
9. Brain Training (Nintendo, Nintendo DS) - 22,866
10. Brain Training English Training (Nintendo, Nintendo DS) - 17,465

The DS Lite was highly successful in the hardware charts as well, selling more units than every other system combined: DS Lite - 163,247
PSP - 29,945
PlayStation 2 - 21,829
GBA SP - 2,719
GB Micro - 1,819
Xbox 360 - 1,197
GameCube - 837
Nintendo DS - 410
GBA - 14
Xbox - 12

im shocked FF3 sold so well, considering they had it originally.

and for mario hoops to sell those numbers, people must really buy anything with mario in the title.

impressive, however

and lol at xbox(s) :)

Heh, yeah.

Interesting note, I\'m pretty sure Square developed Mario Hoops. Nintendo just published it.

Just guessing, but Nintendo itself brought in probably about 35 million dollars that week in Japan alone.
