I switched to a different internet company...
« on: September 25, 2006, 11:57:29 AM »
Evis is right that TimeWarner Cable is a parent company of AOL...

After we received a bill last month from timewarner cable and they overcharged us of $94.65.  I decided to switch to a differen ISP.  2 weeks later, I finally had the gut to called AT&T SBC, and Verizon.  But both have no service available in my area.  So I finally called Earthlink and made a switch.  Earthlink said that I can make a switch and no need to return the cable modem, and no need for installation as i can use the current modem I am using right now because TimeWarner is also the parent company of Earthlink.

But Earthlink told me that the service will be $29.95 for the first 6 months, and only $41.95 afterward for the same download/upload speed from roadrunner because both are run by TimeWarner Cable.

So, I called TimeWarner to made a switch, but TimeWarner was being hard on me and said that if I made a switch, its still be $44.95 because I already had the promotional price from Roadrunner before.  After the conversation, I realized there were flaws in his story.  So I called back to Earthlink and Earthlink promised that it will be $29.95 for the 6 six months, and only $41.95 afterward.  So, I called Timewarner again and finally Timewarner promised me it will be $29.95 for the first six months if I switched to Earthlink and told me they will make the price adjustments from the switch from Roadrunner to Earthlink and other adjustments that they overcharged us in the first place and will be balance out on the bills.

That time, I was thinking if Timewarner still charged us $44.95, I will cancel the account and use dial up if necessary and they can also have the $94.65 that they overcharged us from previous month.  My mom said that they think I really needed the internet badly and only Timewarner can provide the service in my area, and that they can dictate the price.  So she told me if that\'s the case, cancel it and get service from dial-up if necessary.  She really does make a very good point there.

It took me like 2 days from calls that I made between TimeWarner and Earthlink to finally have the switch done with $29.95 for the first 6 months.  Because of the batteries on my cordless phone run out during calls from TimeWarner and Earthlink and from waiting from busy line lines.

This time around, I made an account online on timewarner to check my bills on the internet.  2 days later after the switched to Earthlink, I was surprised to find out that they overpaid us more than they overcharged us in the first place.  The bill said that they owed us -$132.64.  I was thinking about emailing them that they are overpaying us, unless that is a way of repaying us for the compensation, as a way to redeem themselve, then i will appreciate it, if not they can keep some of those money because i rather that they owe us than we owe them.

Until just yesterday, I checked my bill online, and found out that they redo the math, and the price adjustments is only -$37.99 that they owed us, not -$132.64.  Somehow, they remove $94.65 that they charged us, and since we paid $94.65.  It made it seems like they owed us -$94.65 and added that with the adjustments of $-37.99, it total -$132.64.  It seems like they redo the math and included the $94.65 that they charged which will subtract off the -$94.65 that we paid them last month, so its only -$37.99 that they actually owed us and this $-37.99 will be balance out for my upcoming next month service, which is $29.95...and so for now, they only owe us $-8.04...

That means, Over a month of Internet Service I don\'t have to pay anymore money because of the price adjustment.

I am very happy I switched to Earthlink because of the $29.95 per month for the first six months and only $41.95 afterward and the price adjustments seem more reasonable.  Hey, its still expensive, but still a better deal than roadrunner...even though both roadrunner and earthlink are run from timewarner cable...

Your last paragraph sounded word for word of their commercials.

LOL.  I think it does even though I never seen their commercials.  Again, of the 3 high speed internet services from AT&T, Verizon, and TimeWarner, I prefer AT&T and Verizon services more than TimeWarner.

They are less evil than TimeWarner and not as greedy and I don\'t think they would ripped us off like TimeWarner did.

But since the AT&T and Verizon DSL internet services aren\'t available on my area, I been stuck with TimeWarner for over a year and half.  I am not sure what other high speed services are available beside the 3 companies...I know there are lots of companies that offer Dial-Up services, and if TimeWarner is still trying to ripped us off anymore, I wouldn\'t hesitate and cancel my service with TimeWarner and get my internet service elsewhere.

Verizon overcharged me 200 dollars because they claimed I made 8,000 text messages on my phone. I never used text messaging. And then, when I turned OFF the text messaging because I got fed up with their false charges, they charged me the same thing again. I gave them hell after this because obviously, this wasn\'t even possible this time because text messaging was NOT EVEN FUCKING TURNED ON. Verizon pisses me off sometimes.

I hope you\'re happy with this new internet. >_<

Did Verizon pays you back the money that they overcharged you for the text messages that you never used?  Did they sent you a bill with the charged on text messaging?

Thank you, I am very please that TimeWarner finally made the reasonable price adjustments that they overcharged us last month.  Not only that, because I am a new member of Earthlink, I also get to pay less because of the promotional price for the first six months.

Seriously, if TimeWarner still doesn\'t made the price adjustment and doesn\'t give us the promotional price if we switch to Earthlink because I am a new member there, I will cancel my account right away and if they still doesn\'t pay us back the money.  They can have them.  They can keep those money,  as I am not going to bother with it...

I\'m so sick of the f*cking cable companies I\'ll be on cloud 9 when Verizon FIOS is available in my neighborhood.  Even if it is slower than cable, I\'ll make the swtich to that + DirecTV just so I won\'t have to put up with any of Comcast\'s crappy service again.

Haha. you have Comcast? I have Comcast here at my school in south jersey. They are nuts. They charge so fucking much for stupid shit. They are a pain to deal with customer service and they have charges up the ass.

But then in North Jersey I have Cablevision which is not much better. Actually, they\'re worse. They\'ll send you a cable box then the wrong remote so it won\'t work then when you complain, they tell you that you have to upgrade. They pulled that shit with my mom. The cable box they sent was good. Then it got a bit outdated. Our remote stopped working so we sent it back. The remote they sent us didn\'t EVEN WORK WITH THE CABLE BOX. When we called them they told us tough and that we had to upgrade service which was like another 30 a month. Then when we tried to take the box back, they wouldn\'t because their "system was down". My mom told them to shove it up their ass. I hate cable companies. I can\'t wait until Verizon is in South Jersey. I\'m gonna switch to them. They are a lot better to deal with. Woo, sorry for that rant.

Good.  In your case, they ripped you off $200.  That is a lot more dough than mine where out of the $94.65 that we paid, we were ripped of about $40.

So, in your case, if they still didn\'t pay you back, sueing them is what i would do because its $200 is quite a big amount.

Funny you mention Verizon Fios, so I got curious again and as yesterday I check their website to see if Fios is available in my area, and i was surprised to find out they are available in my area.  i check if the dsl is available, just to find out the dsl is not avaible but they say the Fios is.  I guess they just recently had Fios available in my area or something because early this month that i checked, it wasn\'t available.  Which is cool because if TimeWarner screw me again, I wouldn\'t mind jump ship and giving Verizon Fios a try.
