Xbox 360 sells out in Japan

In what can only be explained as Hell completely freezing over and Hitler ice skating a duet with Satan, Microsoft has sold out of its 90,000 unit alotment of the standard Blue Dragon Xbox 360 Core bundle, as well as its more limited edition, 10,000 Special Edition according to Next Generation

The special edition, of which there are about 10,000 units, sold out almost immediately, with the further 90,000 standard units selling fast. Next-Gen spoke to a number of retailers in Tokyo who reported brisk sales or sell-outs of allocations.

The Special Edition includes Blue Dragon, a Xbox 360 Core system, a Blue Dragon Faceplate and five figurines.

Holy shit.

Assuming that all the pre-orders are picked up/sold through, then that makes the 360 userbase in Japan somewhere around 250,000-270,000.  I also assume that in addition to the game with the bundle most every Japanese owner will buy Blue Dragon thus making the game sales around 200,000+.  

I\'m guessing Lost Planet, due to arrive in December as well, will probably be another game on everyone\'s list.  If anything, it should do well considering that Dead Rising has spurred quite a bit of interest over there.

Anyone think Microsoft will do whatever it takes to keep Mistwalker close?  It seems as though Sakaguchi could be a key component to achieving some success there.

MS is persistent in Japan. They wont give up. And they are succeeding slowly but effectively at increasing their popularity over there.

Good news imo.  I\'m not interested in Blue Dragon but at least this will be more local competition for Sony to battle.

Finally, Microsoft is learning an age old tidbit of wisdom.  Give the fans what they want.
