that\'s how fucked up things have become over here, a lot of nhs dentists have been forced into going private by the fucked up nhs system
basically put, if the dentists want to earn decent money while working for the nhs, they have to work like 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, 51 weeks a year, if they refuse to work those hours, their earing potential drops dramatically, so a lot of them are forced into going private.
in the town where I live, 10 years ago, there were 3 nhs dentists, the one I was with was a diabetic and she suffered a diabetic stroke and went blind, so I had to go to one of the others
then early last year, that dentist went private for the above reasons, and that left 1 nhs dentist in my town, naturally, he got flooded with requests for places on his books
I got lucky, I was one of the few that got word of available places early and I went straight up to his surgery and asked if I could be put on his books, I got one of the few places left.
the problem is this:
he can\'t take on any more patients without first applying to the nhs for an extention to his current quota of patients, he did that after the other dentist went private, but was only allocated so many places, and a lot of people were forced to travel out of town to get treatment.
it will get worse as time goes on, it will come to a point where you have the choice of paying to go private, or travel half way across the county to get dental treatement.
it\'s the same with hospitals as well, more and more hospitals are getting closed down, or are forced into merging with bigger hospitals 10-15 miles away.
it\'s fucked up, a lot of it is down to labour, but it\'s also left over from the era where the tories fucked the nation up good and proper.
