Alone In The Dark PS3 Gets A Make Over.

Two of the biggest complaints that Eden found from the Xbox 360 version was the camera and movement. Previously, the game featured a camera system that was always on the players back or fixed for a cinematic feel. Now, the camera is a traditional free-movement system on the right stick. The view has also been pulled out some to allow the player to see a bit more around them. Most of the fixed cameras have been totally removed, except a few critical ones. The movement has also been improved. Main character Edward is no longer like controlling a human version of a semi truck. Now he’s a lot more nimble and is always in run mode instead of requiring players to hold down a button. The last area for core game control that’s been worked on is the FPS view for gun play.

The next place that the developer put some time into improvements is the inventory. One of the cool things about Alone in the Dark is that you saw your inventory in real time and in a real-world way. Edward actually opens his jacket and the player is in an FPS view looking down at various inside pockets. Previously, this would happen in real time, so monsters could still attack, but in the PS3 version the game will pause to save frustration. Another burden was the in-game flashlight. Players would have to put new batteries in when it died and those batteries took up a valuable slot in the jacket. Now that flashlight has unlimited power giving an extra slot in the jacket. Eden also made tiny tweaks to the combo system making the item selection and execution a bit more fluid and simple.

One of the biggest headaches in the game was the driving mission. While the idea of running from certain monstrous doom in a New York City cab is always welcome, the execution was certainly frustrating. The car would slide around like it was driving through a field of banana peels and the smallest bump in the road would send the car out of control. Now the car has been tuned to stay on the road much easier and small bumps or crack won’t ruin your day or cause you to pull your hair out of your head. A checkpoint system has also been introduced so you do not have to start the entire level over if you fail.

The last big changes in the game that we saw were based around the root-burning mechanic. Before, you were told to do this near the end of the game but really, it could have been started around episode three. The amount needed to be burned has also dripped from 70 percent to about 50 percent. There will also be tutorials/help tips for this and other things that the player originally may not have know about.

Eden Games really has an opportunity that a lot of developers only can wish for. To not just merely port the game and do minor tweaks but to actually modify the way the game is played all based off of player feedback is really rare. The PlayStation 3 version of Alone in the Dark is shaping up to be the way to play the game and there will even is an exclusive episode for the system. Xbox 360 players will be getting a small patch to help with camera and movement issues, but due to patch size limitation, that’s it. If you love the series or have yet to play the game, it’s looking like this will be the way to experience Alone in the Dark. PlayStation 3 owners can expect the game the hit this November.

I wanted to buy this game intitially, but the bad reviews have just kept me away from it,...if the improvements have made the game more enjoyable, then i might pick it up....i gotta have my survival horror fix,...it was dumb of them to release that game in the first place knowing full well of the flaws & knowing that the game wasn\'t really ready to be released.

So now they end up spending more money on the game fixing it for the ps3 version, and from what i understand, they are going to release a patch for the xbox version that was sold earlier this year.....which all could have been avoided if they would\'ve fixed everything properly in the first place..
knowledge, wisdom & understanding..these are the basic fundamentals of life

if you can\'t amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t....

"Xbox 360 players will be getting a small patch to help with camera and movement issues, but due to patch size limitation, that’s it."

They should wait to released a "not ready game" ; now it\'s too late, and the patch is just solving a couple of issues...

I love survival horror, and I\'ll probably get this one :)
