ARMA 2 demo

I think its out on Steam also.

Anyone like the series? Arma 1 and the game before that, Operation Flashpoint?

I was a huge fan of Operation Flashpoint and the expansion, but I skilled ARMA until just a few months ago when I got to play it. Not a bad game but not a huge step up from OFP1.

So now I played the demo of AMRA2, pretty impressed. The game looks quite good (not a huge fan of the high contrast look though), does not run all that good on my PC (C2D E6600, GF8800GTS), hopefully that will get better with the patches. I read they got one yesterday which improved performance already.

Biggest improvement right now? I would say the AI.. They can actually move around in the towns and take enemies out, before (ARMA, OFP) they would get stuck somewhere and just behave retarded.

Ordered the game on a disc, would have bought it from steam but those retards are charging 22USD more compared to retail prices.

I liked OFP 1 a lot, but wasnt big on ARMA 1. The aiming and game in general just felt off.

But I\'ll try out ARMA 2...hopefully this or the new OFP turn out good. Would be nice to have a good open-world, realistic military game

Yeah its not a game for everyone. :) I love it while my brother who is a huge Battlefield 2 fan hates it. What about it didnt you like?

Still waiting for my copy to ship, seems to be in short supply here. Ugh.

Im just too lazy to figure out how to do things correctly, lol. I cant figure out how to fly the helo well. Then the mission I tried I wanted to plan a good route to take over point A, then by the time I got there the AI took it overand were fighting over the next point, but I lost track of my vehicle and tried to run around to find another one...which I couldnt and the AI started fighting over the other point without me and the enemy took it over.

In terms of how the game plays, I dont know if it was my graphic set-up, but the sky is so bright that its near impossible to see people firing at you on the horizon...so you have to run closer to them and either get shot or feel the AI is being dumb by knowing where you are and still not killing you.

Then just the usual annoyances of not knowing the buttons with new games

They really fucked up the helo controls in this game, and the last.. In OFP you could easily control the chopper just using the mouse, now they have made it way more difficult. You basically must have a joystick in order to fly it.

Luckily I got a old Saitek Cyborg something which works great.

The game has HDR-lightning, something might be wrong there with your game. Not sure if its possible to switch that off, maybe by selecting no post-processing?

I bought the game via Steam today :banghead: ... I was going to order it on disc but the deliver time was 2 weeks. Ugh, not sure why the game is in such low supply?

Anyway, this game is WEAPONS porn. You have a ton of vehicles you can pilot, lots and lots of weapons (though 20-30 of them are different variations of the AK47 :P )..
Really getting into the gameplay also. You have to take is really slow, run a bit then sit down and see if you can detect any movement of enemies, if you know they are around. A lot different compared to most FPS which is mostly run-and-gun (Call of Duty).
