And we’re off. Sony just confirmed a massive press conference for GamesCom. Details:

We’re hearing that the firm has huge plans for the show, so you want to be watching very, very carefully. Price cuts? Slims? Doubleclick. Don’t fucking blink.
We’ll have the ultimate liveblog or die trying. So pumped.

Let me quote Coredweller\'s link:

Quote
"...a PS3 that comes with a thinner, lighter shape and a 120-gigabyte hard drive — for $299, which is a whopping $100 less than the PS3 has been previously priced at...

...Sony executives announced that the PlayStation 3 Slim will be available starting Sept. 1 and that the company will also drop the price of the current 80 gigabyte PlayStation 3 to $299 — effective immediately. Meanwhile, its 160-gigabyte model will drop from $499 to $399. (Both the 160- and 80-gigabyte models will be discontinued once they sell out.)"

So, as of today, the 80 GB PS3 will have a price drop to $299.  While the newer and slimmer 120 GB PS3 will have the same price tag of $299 and will start to come out on September 1, 2009.

Here is the PS3 slim\'s picture.

I might buy one of these when my old faithful 60gb dies. £250 seems much more palatable a price tag.

Not bad looking...but i\'m wondering if i should trade my 40g model in for this new slim ps3 when it drops....120g is nice....i do like the styling better of the 1 ton older ps3 model tho....:D..and i guess i would lose all of my game saves if i did trade it in.

The realtime damage is great...but i hope there\'s an option to turn it off....i really didn\'t have a problem with the way it was before...only because of the fact that there\'s no possible way you\'re going to get the computer to behave in a manner that a human would drive. The computer cars still will most likely be guided on rails and if you go into a turn, they are going to take that turn no matter what car is in the lane.

This is not a knock against poly...it\'s incredbily hard to program cars to react as a true human driver would and nailing the physics of realtime damage is a pain in the ass too. I knew poly would add damage tho, since the masses were askin\' for it, but until we get cars that react to the way you drive and not on rails, it won\'t be as realistic as it could be...and yes at the end of the day it\'s just a game...i\'m just sayin\'...:D....i\'m sure gran turismo is still going to be the best simulation racer you can get on tha market.
