Website Ad banners....
« on: November 04, 2009, 02:14:56 AM »
...are getting fucking ridiculously annoying

gametrailers has to be the worst site I go to where if your cursor skims over the ad, it turns into some ginormous ad that takes up the whole screen and you have to look for the close button like a where\'s waldo picture. the burger king one doesnt take up the screen, but it blocks the top half without visually taking up the screen (hard to explain, but its because the banner rotates based on where the cursor is), so it takes a second to realize the banner is blocking you when you cant click on anything.

and it\'s every damn time you go on the site since the cursor starts at the top at the url bar, then theres no way to not accidently touch it when you navigate through the website

pisses me off...

I use firefox with adblock plus, so the only ads I see are in msn, msn has expandable ads like that and it is annoying.

I know you can mod msn to take out the ads, but I can\'t be bothered.

Grab the latest Firefox and install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Also Flashblock if to initially block flash movies/animations: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433

Regarding the constant overuse of full screen ads that interact with the page design, I actually kinda like it if done right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxL156zq4lg

cool, thanks guys

the ads themselves are cleverly made, but that doesnt make up for the annoyance of it getting in the way of the site

That ipod ad was kind of cool. Best to be entertaining since the ads inherently piss everyone off.

I used to go to a wrestling site, maybe 1wrestling or something that had tons of reliable, behind the scenes info and PPV reports on the WWE when I used to follow it day to day. It got so bad with pop ups, system-draining flash banner, pop unders and everything else that I stopped going. I loved the site and the content and I stopped going. I still won\'t go back.

Wrestling is for two types of people. Fags and people who put their cocks in fags.

Firefox doesn\'t always block them though. For the most part it does but every now and then a few of the annoying ones still sneak by.
