Steam Christmas Sale

Some pretty nice deals. I ended up getting prince of persia warrior within and two thrones, mirror\'s edge, and sniper elite for 16 bucks. the two PoP\'s were 5 bucks, ME was 5, and sniper elite was 2 bucks. There\'s even STALKER for 2 bucks which would be amazing for anyone that doesnt have it.

this reminded me why I stopped playing games on pc,lol

ME is fun but it does lock up every now and then if I play too long in one sitting, and prince of persia: warrior within my screen is mostly black. all that shows up are fire and vague shadows of characters.

consoles may look worse compared to a high-end pc, but you also dont have to deal with this shit and (usually) get solid frames instead of either getting solid frames and lesser graphics or some jitters and high-end graphics if you have an above average computer

edit: nvm..i fixed pop

PoP: WW has to be the buggiest game i\'ve ever played. two or three weird looking crashes, not just CTD\'s; now I saved my game and im not that far so Im still a normal prince, I go back to my saved game and im some crazy black dude with tentacles, which I dont think you get until later in the game.

cant even figure out what im supposed to do next. even if i start over, which kills games for me, Ill probably run into other gamebreaking shit.

pc gaming is dead..:D

edit: I found a grip of save files on the interweb and got back to where I was. and I knew the general twist but didn\'t know exactly what it was, and the bug kind of ruined it for me. o well..was just 5 bucks

My pc is old and games don\'t work for me.  Therefore, pc gaming is dead for everyone.

Never had a problem with Steam, but to your credit I\'ve also never downloaded those games. What OS are you running and are your updates/drivers up to date?

windows xp and all my drivers are updated. Most of those games are years old so if anything, my computer is too much for them. at least warrior within.

the bug was I ran to a different area of the game, since it does have some exploration to find health increase spots, but i saved the game at a spot I shouldnt have been yet so the game read it as if I was way ahead of what I really was. Has nothing to do with my pc.

But I can run crysis on almost all high, so its not old but its also not top of the line. Just tired of shit never running smoothly with pc\'s. I was a big advocate of pc>consoles during the ps2 and games like BF2 and raven shield, but i\'d absolutely get a console version of a game before pc now.

but I definitely have PC problems that not everyone has. I found my CPU usage was 100% when mirror\'s edge froze, and vista would constantly lock up on my system. probably because I upgraded parts separately instead of forking out $2,000

funny you have so many problems, i\'ve had basically no problems with pc gaming like you have.  If I did I would probably feel the same way.

How is steam with normal releases? I\'ve only used it on these cheap small games.

There\'s a delay on when physical copies of AvP will be available, so I\'m probably going to buckle and break my rule of only getting physical copies of games. Is there any down side to steam? Like with cd-keys er whatever...

I\'d much rather get a game on STEAM than a physical dvd.  I have the luxury to easily install games I purchased several years ago without having to fish out the disc (if I still have it), all games are patched automatically to the latest updates, and no authentication keys whatsoever, at least for all the games I downloaded.

best buy had it, so i got it there.

but i still wanted to know what people thought of steam since I always debate whether to start buying stuff electronically

I just like actually holding whatever I\'m buying instead of just owning rights to a download...no school like old school

I also heard a lot of people having problems with their downloads taking foreeeverrr for AvP on steam so that was another reason i looked for the physical copy

I got on steam since mw2 forced pc users to authenticate through it.  I never really gave it a fair shake, I really like steam now.

The only major downside I see is not having the physical media and you can\'t resell downloaded games.  Other than that I love steam and plan on making a majority of my future purchases through it.

My downloads go very fast through steam.  I usually pull at around 1.5 mb/s on downloads on my cable connection.

What I also like is that recently I had to do a reformat and reinstall of my OS, all you have to do is copy the whole steam program folder, overwrite it after you install the new OS and voila, you don\'t have to go and reinstall all your games.

Also the friend list & being able to chat even while you are in different games, invite friends to a game you are in is really a cool thing for pc gamers.  I guess about as close to an \'xbox live\' sort of thing as we will ever get.
