Italia
« on: March 09, 2010, 07:18:13 PM »
I planned on going to italy after graduating 5ish years ago, and I finally got the plane tickets all in order.

Going to philadelphia June 1st to meet up with my brother. Then we\'re flying to Milan June 2nd/3rd. Then going back to philly june 18th, and back to san diego the 20th.

Havent totally mapped out all the areas we\'re going to go to. Have some ideas though. We\'ll plan it out so we dont waste time, but we still want to be a little loose with where we\'re going and when. Probably going to find hostels wherever we go to keep the bed costs down.

(this is what sprung up the clothing thread...cant go to the vatican with a metallica shirt. and I dont want to look like im going to a wedding either)

anyone accustomed to traveling? especially in italy? I pm\'ed bizio a while ago but...he was probably playing uncharted

I\'m trying to figure out how far in advance I need to book a hostel, or if we can just show up the day of. We want to be as unscheduled as possible and do our own thing, but i\'m still worried of getting screwed over when we get there and either be scrambling for a place or paying out the ass..which defeats the purpose of using hostels.

Not sure where we\'re planning on going after we get to milan. We dont want to stay there too long since we\'ve heard its disappointing. wish we got there at night so we could sleep once we get there, but we get there at 8am...not sure how well feel about a train ride after the flight. Either we\'re going north to lake maggiore or start the treck southwards.

wouldn\'t recommend traveling anywhere without a gameplan, especially after plunking down the cash for a plane ticket to Italy.

Here\'s a good starting point, but advice from a local (or someone who\'s lived there) is always your best bet.

Your trip should rock, have fun.  I still have yet to visit anywhere in Europe >={

It\'s virtually impossible to get a bad picture there.  Goo stuff.

That last pic looks like Las Vegas.  ;)

if you visit italy right about now, as you are getting off the plane, you might just be lucky enough to see the italian football team make a glorious early return home from the world cup.

was just a small digital camera my brother has

we debated on bringing a serious camera but we didn\'t want to worry about carrying it around.

Im definitely glad we didnt have to worry about it on train rides and stuff, but the little camera we used that we just stuck in our pockets took some pretty damn impressive shots. On the PS3 you can zoom into pictures and even zoomed in a lot theres still really good detail given how small the camera is

hey man, no worries at all. We didnt really run into any problems getting around and getting hotels since they had this chain of travel agency at every place (its called \'365\' er something) which was really helpful. The only thing we messed up was we didnt know we had to validate our train ticket for like the first 3 rides,haha...we thought the guy walking around the train checking for the validation was the guy validating. We figured it out eventually, so I finally got the trains mastered whenever I go back.

But yea, the country is great. Oddly enough, despite being known for its food (which was awesome), i swear you lose weight traveling in italy with all the walking you do,haha. I loved florence since we never stepped foot on a bus/taxi in the whole 3 days and still saw everything there was to see...except the walk to piazza michaelangelo was pretty brutal

I\'m happy you enjoyed the trip, and if you should come back again, we could meet each other, job permitting.  I love Florence too, though it\'s a long time I don\'t spend some time there.  You opted for the best time to come, now it\'s so hot in Italy, so hot.  the beginning of june is the perfect season to see stuff here.
