playstation 4 teaser?

what is your thought on the teaser?  i am very unimpressed by it, the graphic just looks like what the ps3/xbox360 can do which is like last generation graphic.

It\'s not so much the look of the graphics....if the artists can\'t make it look awesome, it won\'t look awesome. I think the PS4 or Orbis will be a leap from the PS3.

Isn\'t it kind of odd watching a tech demo on such a highly compressed youtube video?

it still looks like last generation graphic of what ps3 and xbox360 are capable of.  there are like a couple scenes where the effects look like what this generation should look like.
the texture and lighting looks like something the ps3 and xbox360 can do.

yeah.  what\'s even more odd is the compression quality is very efficient.  even more efficient than what i thought the mpeg-4 (avc) is capable off.  Magic I say.

They showed all these clips in the Playstation press conference. I think they look leaps and bounds above this generation. Saying that the current generation can do this is something I don\'t agree with. The graphics right now are really good but the realism in these videos take it to a new level. And these are just going to be launch titles. Imagine what they will look like in a few years.

whatever.  the texture still doesn\'t have that CG look, so is the lighting which does looks lacking too.  Rather bland and again, most of those video shown in the teaser looks very doable on the ps3 and xbox360.

I think this generation graphic should look as good or better than what we see in tekken tag tournament CG videos.  imagine running video games at 1080p @ 60 fps in ttt CG quality or better.

something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0THUTX2lXps

or something like the cg videos of Final Fantasy 8, 9, 10, 12, or more current like 13.  i wouldn\'t be surprised if it can do better than the CG videos of ff13 running in 1080p @ 60 fps.  remember FF13 real-time in game graphic looks almost somewhat like CG counterpart, especially on some in game cut-scenes that were rendered in real-time.  the texture and lighting almost look similar to CG rendered video and that was done in ps3.

so, i wouldn\'t be surprised if ps4 or next xbox should look as good or better than the CG videos of FF13.

Remember Final Fantasy "Agni\'s Philosophy" that was shown in E3 last year?  That\'s what the next playstation or ps4 and next xbox should look like for graphic.

Here is the video trailer of that tech demo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQB9ds2AYwM

the only annoying thing about that video is the main protagonist female character.  i don\'t like how she moans a bit too much and acted too girly.  i can understand she might be a beginner or something that\'s why she acted weak, but too girly and the moaning is a bit over the top and annoying too.  i don\'t know the word to describe it.  the rest of the other minor characters in the video is just perfect for the look, voice, and acting.  they all look cool and tough too.

i guess they could make the main female protagonist look cooler and "less" conservative looking, not just the face but the clothing too.  By that i mean less serious looking clothes and hair style i guess.  the skin tone on her face look a bit too "pale", not a healthy glow pale but the pale of a person that didn\'t get any or enough sunlight or something.  but its just a tech demo though.  It does give us a very good idea of what the next generation soon to be consoles graphic should look like.

one last minor complaint that i can think of and remember is the shaking of the camera in the tech-demo.  i think shaking of the camera should be use sparingly, and during the scenes that the camera shakes, i prefer it to be shaken slowly, not fast so its better for us to watch what is going on.  same thing with like panning or zooming in or out, it should be pan or zoom gracefully like slowly or in moderate speed so its easier to watch what\'s going on too.  i suggest this to not just the tech demo, but in all video games and movies too.

I kinda agree with paul....i\'m not really impressed with what i saw here...tho i\'ve always felt that the industry in general was forcing this next gen a bit too soon...I just got finished beating Dead Space 3 (amazing game btw) and don\'t be mislead about what they said it being an action game...nope there is still some tight dark and incredibly intense moments in that game.

That said there are some amazing set pieces in that game that just made stop and stare at the art direction and design...seriously the game feels some much bigger than the first two games and the passion of the dev\'s really showed in that game.

I felt this gen could\'ve gone for another 3-4 years because the games comin down the pike and the games out currently just look amazing and that leap from the new systems just isn\'t there yet.

Yes in a few years the games will amazing, but in order for these systems to really have an impact you need to see that difference in how you felt it when we transistioned from 16 bit to 32 bit or from the ps1 to the ps2...the way it is now, i\'m comfortable with the graphics and games the ps3 has right now and there\'s nothing from the ps4 lineup that will make me buy it as soon as it drops.

Not that i would buy a ps4 day 1 anyway, but there is nothing there that would make me run out and buy one.

I see your point to an extent. But when I see the graphics of the launch titles, I personally do see a step up in terms of the emotion on the face and the overall realism of the videos. I can understand where you are coming from when you are hoping for bigger leaps and being content with the graphics. But also, we are looking at videos though the internet and web streaming. I\'m sure once we get our grubby little mitts on the real thing when it launches, it may surprise you. Plus, launch titles never really did any console justice in terms of graphics anyway. I mean look at Dead Space 3 and compare it with Dead Space and you can see how the graphics evolved (BTW, did you play the new DLC yet?) and that was just a couple years. I finished Mass Effect a couple months ago and now playing Mass Effect 3, there were huge evolution in graphics.

I wouldn\'t say its a bit too soon, its about time Sony and Microsoft show off what their next generation consoles could do.  Its over 7 years since the launched of xbox360 and over 6 years since the launched of ps3.  I wouldn\'t be surprised if they announce something about their next generation consoles in this year E3 which is about 3 months from now.

another 3 to 4 years would be way to loooong, that would be like 10 to 11 years since the released of xbox360 and ps3.  The leap from the new systems is actually very, very, very big imo.

I was kind of wrong when i say the ps4 will be around 500 to 1,000 times more powerful than ps3.  I think its more like around 3,000 times more powerful than ps3.

Lets assume the ps2 is around 250 times more powerful than ps1, and ps3 is about 500 times more powerful than ps2, and ps4 is 3,000 times more powerful than ps3.

lets multiply them and see how powerful the ps4 is compare to ps1.

250 x 500 x 3,000 = 375,000,000.  That would mean the ps4 is 375 million times more powerful than the ps1 is.  Just for curiosity.  But of course, i could be off though.

speaking of transitioning, say for instance like nintendo.  it took nintendo 6 to 7 years to transition from 8 bits to 16 bits console.  i guess at first they didn\'t really wanted to make and release it as they see the 8 bits NES still sells very well and they might be afraid consumers won\'t upgrade to 16 bits.  After seeing how successful the 16 bits sega genesis is.  it changes nintendo strategy and they make and released the 16 bits SNES.  It took them 6 years to release the n64, and 5 years to launch the gamecube and another 5 years to release the Wii and 6 years to release the Wii U.

speaking from the transitioned from 16 bits to 32 bits era, i guess the biggest difference is going from 2-D to 3-D.  I remember playing the demo games in the demo disc that came with the ps1 that i bought and i was very wowed by it especially the first few days of playing it and that time i really didn\'t know why and now that i think about it, its because the change from 2-D to 3-D that make it a major factor in the wowed experience.

the playstation1 first launched in Dec 1994, and the ps2 came out in march 2000, which is a bit over 5 years difference.  and the ps3 took over 6 years for launch.  Now, its over 6 years since the launched of ps3.  So, i think its about time sony shows something in this year e3 of what the ps4 might be...

the xbox launched in Nov 2001, and the xbox360 launched in Nov 2005 which is 4 years apart.  Now, its over 7 years since the launched of 360.  So, I wouldn\'t be surprised if xbox is going to show something of what their next gen console will be like in E3.

i wouldn\'t buy a ps4 on day one either.  I agree with you there are probably aren\'t any games that would make me buy one on launch date.  The cost is another reason and there could be problems that could occur from early generation release consoles like glitches and hardware failures.

Sony better show the console itself at E3. I was hoping for a glimpse at the conference, even if it was a prototype. Would have been cool to see something physical to sink my teeth into instead of just seeing the graphics. They say the physical design is not finished yet. Maybe so. But would have been nice to have something.

I see what you guys are saying....but sorry i just don\'t see the graphical jump yet...not saying that it won\'t happen, because like you mentioned titan..the graphical difference between Dead Space 1 and 3 and Mass Effect 2 & 3 is something visually significantly better.

But it\'s been what? 6 or 7 years since the ps3 dropped and i guess what i\'m saying is that outside of your yearly call of duty and yearly sports games,..most games in general need about 2 years development time...so if we\'re already jumping ship for new systems within 6 or 7 seven years, it\'s almost as if the industry is pulling the rug out from up underneath the dev\'s.

Since we\'re at a point where these guys are finally finessing their craft with these current systems, now all of a sudden we need a new genre? I say that this gen could go another few years just because even now it still takes about a couple of years for a firm to create a solid title, and quite honestly production costs, even for a modest game is still extremely expensive.

Which is why you see alot of PSN and Acrcade games...which some are unique and great (Limbo comes to mind) but i just wonder how much better some of those would have been if given the full AAA treatment or just gievn access to better resources to create their game, but that goes back to costs and why they made their game a psn or arcade game in the first place.

Again tho i see what you guys are sayin\'...:fro:

Even Call of Duty needs 2 years development time. They just switch off between Treyarch and Infinity Ward. Though they are still cookie cutter games :)

I think because of this 2 years development time, we\'re going to see an overlap for a year or so of games coming out for PS3 and PS4 concurrently. I\'m actually really excited to hear news for Mass Effect 4. I feel they should be announcing it within the next few months (by the end of summer at least). I\'m curious to see which generation its coming out for. If its next gen, I\'m getting PS4 for it. Hope not to save me some money :)
