Japan and the XBOX....
« on: December 14, 2000, 02:49:23 AM »
It seems that alo ppl are getting worried about XBOX
( because they are Sony and/or PS2 enthousiats, especially now MS signed EA.
I think we shouldn\'t jump conclusions \'cause there\'s
still the Japanese market to be reckoned with.
Oh yeah of course I know Japanese devs like namco and
so on signed to XBOX already, but what about the average
Japanese gamer ?
The last batch of new PS2\'s sold like hotcakes to the
Japanese.
And even in the rest of the world ppl are eagerly awaiting
for a PS2.
They won\'t throw their new PS2 out of the window if XBOX and NGC launch , so there\'s another big add to a already big
Japanese PS2 installed userbase.
It\'s even questionable how the Japanese public will react
to a foreign console like the XBOX.
Now some of, you guys, out there will probably say Japan is
just one country.
But don\'t underestimate their part in the world of videogames.

I don\'t think many people are getting worried about ps2 losing too xbox. (like that will happen imo). Its just all the fanboys coming here posting stuff as soon as they read it.. EA developering for XBOX.. LOL BIG DEAL. EA develope for everything.. Too SEGA. Atari darn even the OLD commadore 64. They make games on pc.. Why do people this is such a big thing. Its not. EA go where the money will be. :D

You see !
JackZ won\'t worry if Square won\'t go to MS.
There\'s still alo ppl that don\'t worry only IF....
a certain devvie won\'t abandon Sony.
I\'m just saying what I see other ppl saying.
Well , and if it does turn bad for PS2 ( hmpf !)
then I guess I would have to sell it to go along
with the majority and buy an Xbox.
For now I\'m keeping my thumbs up and I\'m gonna
wait for \'the Getaway\'
(scee\'s/studio soho own game haha !).

So what if PS2 does lose to XBox?  It doesn\'t really matter.  Losing isn\'t what kills you.  Getting dominated does.  And the PS2 will not get dominated.  If it loses, it will be a damn close race - which means you still get all the games you want.  Hell, even though the Saturn was dead as hell and took 3 years to hit it\'s million mark, it STILL received ports of popular PSX titles like Resident Evil, Wipeout, Tomb Raider, Dead or Alive, Battle Arena Toshinden, etc.  Isn\'t that funny?  Developers refused to give up on those million gamers until Sega finally walked away.  And the Saturn was an absolute bitch to develop for.

Hey ppl !
But my main point is what to expect from
the influence of the Japanese gamers on this
next gen of consoles : I think it shouldn\'t
be underestimated.

Agreed. But perhaps a big deal is being made of it now because previously a big deal was made about EA apparantly not supporting the XBox (in this and other forums). :p

IMO, the only people here who are suprised by EA\'s announcement or see it as a threat to the PS2 are fanboys, because they used it as a weapon against the XBox, much like FSAA was used against the PS2 (until recently).

Anyway, I guess that just leaves Square now. :)

The japanese market is strange.  But its really that market that dictates what happens.  Because all the big game developers are over there and they look at what the Japanese gamers are doing and they base their business off of that.

So, its going to be interesting to see if Japanese gamers take hold of the X-box...  I really don\'t think they will..  But time will tell.

There are more American PSX owners than Japanese PSX owners.  Console gaming is bigger in America, yet we still get the short end of the stick.  Know why?

Sony and Sega are in Japan (Sega was BORN in America damnit).  Most console developers are in Japan.  So Japan will always get more respect and recognition than America will.

Anyone know how fanatical the Japanese are about videogames? Hell I don\'t live there so I don\'t know but I have a feeling even when Xbox comes to Japan I don\'t think they\'ll throw away their PS2\'s.  I have a feeling they\'ll keep it and pick up games they want for both systems.

I have a feeling for every guy we have in America that has that kick ass collection of videogames systems and games there is 4 of them in Japan. Point is I just don\'t think they\'ll drop the PS2 in Japan but they\'ll pick up and Xbox as well.

If they\'re fanatical about games in Japan, then why aren\'t they buying up cheap Dreamcast\'s like crazy?  They\'re fanatical about Square... like EA over here, but worse.  Please, for the love of god, don\'t tell me that somebody who loves games would pass up on the Dreamcast because "it has no good games".  Because, according to Japan\'s VERY OWN Famitsu, the Dreamcast has many Silver, Gold, and Platinum games.

This is just a funny thing I got to think about. I saw the sales figures of the PSX and it turned out that most PSX were sold in Europe! Closely followed by USA and then Japan. But still Europe gets the short end of the stick almost every time. Why? It sure can\'t because there are no gamers here... We bought more PSX than the Americans. Life isn\'t fair.
