Yes, you heard right Sony has the biggest advantage of winning this war because they would have already converted all there 40 million Playstation users to the PS2 by 2002.  And it\'s very unlikely that a casual gamer would switch from Sony to Microsoft if Sony has the first chance of converting them.

If Sony uses there advantage they can win this war, they cannot make a mistake like Nintendo did 5 years ago and over look a new company steping into the gaming world.  Nintendo could still be number one if they had used the advantages they had, but Nintendo had to be big headed and over look Sony.  Now look what happen to them.  Don\'t look for Sony to make this mistake.  You can already tell that Sony doesn\'t want any of there casual gamers thinking about the X-Box right now, they want them focusing on getting a PS2 and converting to that system.  That\'s why Sony is demanding these stores to shut down these posters about X-Box arriving. Like I said, Sony is ready for war.

Sony has already said they could convert there 40 million PS customers to PS2 by December 2001 or early January 2002.  They have already made a commitment to convert 1.2 million by January 2001...........Right now Sony has the biggest advantage of winning and they know that.  They are just about finish converting hardcore gamers over to the PS2, and will concentrate more on the people who made them number one "casual gamers".  Most casual willnot convert to the X-Box if Sony can convert them first.

What Sony needs to do is stop worrying about EA, and concentrate on 989 studios, which I think they will for now on, knowing now that Madden and other games willnot be exclusive to the PS2.  I expect Gameday 2002 to be the greatest football game of all time.  Sony can do it.

To sum this up, all Sony has to do now is concentrate on converting all there 40 million plus users to the PS2.  They can do this, this is there only ticket to number one.  They have an advantage that Microsoft cannot take away from them only Sony can.  They cannot end up like Nintendo and forget about those who brought them to the dance.

Right now Sony can beat Microsoft with there secret advantage,  Convincing casual gamers that 300 dollars will be worth spent, and converting them to PS2 very fast.

If I was Sony and had this advantage I would have no worries at all.

I can live with a PS2 and X-box.

I certainly will buy the Gamecube for Mario and Luigi games alone. Sega?...well...no. I like their arcade games better.

thats right
every ****er who owns a PSX is going to buy a PS2
you can be sure of that
thats not even counting the millions of N64 owners who, disillusioned with nintendos failure to deliver with that system, will go out and purchase a PS2 (mostly older gamers i suspect)
plus, how many gamers do you think will be willing to wait 10 months before they buy a next gen console
sure, serious gamers buy multiple consoles
but im guessing the casual gamer (majority) will be more than happy with their PS2 and library of games available for their PS2 by the time NGC and xbox hit
youre seeing that now with DC owners
many DC owners just wont give the PS2 a second look because they are satisfied with the quality games already available on DC
i think that xbox and NGC may have a tough time competing with PS2 to be honest
because, as has been stated, PS2 will have such a huge installed user base by the time xbox and NGC are released
although i have to say, one thing that nintendo has going for it is the fact that the kids are hooked
i mean, nintendo has such a strangle hold on that younger 6 to 12 (or thereabouts) age group
they have essentially secured their future by winning the hearts of younger gamers
****, im sure ive said all this before in a previous post :)
but which system do you think alot of those kids (the next generation of gamers) will be inclined to choose as their next gen console of choice
NCG im guessing
heres the way i think nintendo will play it for those who care
they will release a slew of **** for N64 aimed @ younger gamers between now and when NGC hits, to stop young gamers converting to PS2
then, NGC will age with the kids that purchase it
games maturing as gamers mature
you can be sure that they will cater for older gamers straight of the bat too, more so than they did with N64 i suspect
the only thing i can really see going in xbox\'s favour is the power of the machine
and well, the half a billion dollar advertising campaign that will acompany its release
:sconf: god help us
but really, how much of a muchness do you think there will be between these next gen consoles by the time they are all out and firing
by 2005 IMO sony will still lead the gaming industry, with nintendo close behind (given time i think nintendo MAY even get back on top eventually, MAYBE) microsoft will be third and sega...well im not going to count them out completely cause they are a sound company who are making great games right now...but i suspect they may be bringing up the rear
of course this is all speculation
we\'ll just have to wait and see what happens
it will be interesting though, to see how it plays out
thats all...

I was gonna hold off on buying a PSX2, but what the hell, its only money..

Im kinda plaing on buying an X-Box, but Im not going to on launch day, forget that.  I will wait a month or two.  I don\'t really want to support MS.

Also, maybe by then, PSX2 will have really good games out and I wont even think about it.  All this nonsense about war and crap.  Who cares, its just a game.....

Its all about having fun.  I support sony, but if they loose, the loose.  nothing I can do..

Peace

ANYONE who wants a game company to die is a jealous fanboy who can\'t enjoy their games because of their blindness over another company. I want all the consoles to be successful, I want Sega to win to restore their image that so many of you people like to bring up.

That said, you really think PS2 will have a 40 million userbase by 2002? hahahaha! :D:D:D:D what a joke. Sony can\'t even manufacture them that fast Plus with two new consoles and another one right before PS2, how do you think they are going to do this, by magic? The logic is completely asanine also. 40 PSX owners will by PS2. hahaha! I know many people who had a PSX who arent buying one, waiting for GC or XBox.

This article is truly pathetic.

Tell me why Sega and Nintendo will die, animal_mother.  Please, do tell.

Better yet, tell me when a system has had 3 million users in it\'s first year and then failed.  TELL ME NOW.  Go ahead.  Name ONE.  Please.  I\'m waiting.  JUST ONE.  Until you can, then your statement of death is utter crap.  Prove me wrong.  Secondly, Nintendo always has the handhelds to fall back on.  They own handhelds more than Sony owns consoles - and Nintendo isn\'t losing money on each unit sold!  In addition to this, they are tying their handhelds in with the Gamecube.  I could care less who wins the war, but this crap with believing/hoping for any company to die is wishful bullsh**.  It won\'t happen.

Actually, if they have 10 million worldwide (the plan for march)... 40 million is too high, but 20 million is possible
especially when the new plants come online.

For whatever the reason, some people tend to have some sort of affinity to one gaming company or another. The attempt to sway another person by means of speculation seems to be nothing less than a fruitless endeavor. Might I suggest that we put away our crystal balls and start enjoying the games/systems we have now. Just a suggestion.
It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

ummmm...playstation rulz...what exactly do you mean 40 millions psx user?  From what I know, there are at least 75 millions psx owner worldwide and counting.  But that doesn\'t means everybody(psx user) will buy a playstation 2.  Some might wait and see how it turns out.  Other see if xbox can compete with it...

I know several people who arn\'t buying the PS2 but are waiting for Xbox to come on the scene.  Microsoft has some secrets coming out E3 through Launch of Xbox.

Sony hasn\'t won this console war by a long shot and its going to be a long year as we all wait for PS2 titles to come out and those that do come out are not looking to really exploit the PS2.   Only a select few will be able to break the  mold, its going to be a long year folks might as well settle in.
