E3 2015
« on: June 15, 2015, 08:45:51 AM »
It's that time of year again. E3 is under way and there's going to be a lot of cool stuff being announced. Bethesda has already shown off the new Doom and Fallout. Microsoft and EA are showing off their latest things this afternoon. But the biggest for us is Sonys press conference tonight at 6pm Pacific/ 9pm Eastern time. They are doing a live stream on Twitch (link below).

It was a pretty kick ass day. When I looked at my game news app, I missed an incredible amount of stuff. Here's some of the big things that stuck out to me today.

Doom gameplay. Technically yesterday but I saw it today and quite enjoyed it :) To be honest, I forgot about this game but it's definitely on my radar. I'll be keeping an eye out for it. Supposedly releases in 2016.

Another was Mass Effect: Andromeda announcement trailer. Not much was released about the game except that you are human, you explore Andromeda, not the Milky Way and it takes place long after the events of the third game. Also, it releases Holiday 2016.

And of course, my most hyped up game, Star Wars Battlefront :) (shame I was in a meeting during EA's press conference). All I can say is this looks like it will be a damn good game.

The Last Guardian:

Horizon:

Final Fantasy 7:

And, IMO, the winner of E3 2015

Fallout 4:
http://www.twitch.tv/bethesda/v/6189973?t=1h07m39s

Add to that games like Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 5. Holy shit.

Anyway, Final Fantasy 7 is my favourite game of all-time. But Fallout 3 isn't far behind. Given how much Fallout 4 was shown, how mind-blowingly awesome it looks, and how complete it is, this is by far the "winner" of the show. I am so stoked right now.

Ha-ha. Dammit. This is why I don't like browsing forums on my phone. I have a tendency to skim and glance over things.

Anywho, there is a good lineup of press conferences and demonstrations lined up again today. Keep the news coming :)

Yeah, but the question is.. what do we want from an FF7 remake? And can it live up to expectations?

Here is what I am interested in:

 - improved or expanded upon materia system. Materia is probably the best gameplay element to the original game, it was so simple, yet allowed for so many wonderful combinations
 - greater number of accessible areas, new towns, new NPC's, new playable characters. One thing I always thought it that the population to the original world was too lacking. I want it to really feel like this is a massive world
 - difficulty settings. this would improve the game so much. That wonderful materia system could never fully be utilized because we were never forced to utilize it in creative ways. Mostly we would use it for the sheer pleasure of it. Also, in the original game, if you did any kind of exploration the game became way too easy.
 - new game+ and a whole slew of new side-quests and other interactions with long-term rewards

That's all I can think of for now.

This is one of the more interesting news to come from E3. At the Sony press conference they announced a kickstarter for Shenmue 3. They said if it got 2 million dollars, they would be funded to make it. In less than 24 hours they surpassed that goal. Shenmue fans rejoice!

When you need cold, hard cash, who are you gonna call? Not the Ghostbusters for sure, but rather, the power of crowdfunding. Shenmue 3 has apparently launched as a project over on Kickstarter, and you will be pleased to hear that within 9 hours of its Kickstarter launch, it had already surpassed the goal of $2 million. In fact, as at press time, the amount pledged stands at an impressive $2.7 million, now how about that for dedication amongst gamers?

Shenmue 3, which saw a trademark filing appear one and a half years ago, has been revealed by Sony alongside The Last Guardian as well as other announcements during its press conference at E3 2015. For those who are new to the video game scene, you might be wondering what the fuss is all about concerning Shenmue 3. Well, this happens to be the long-awaited instalment to the critically acclaimed open world series, where it first debuted on the now defunct Sega Dreamcast right before Y2K, with Shenmue 2 being introduced in 2001.

Shenmue 3 will see the story continue from the end of the sequel's narrative, where Ryo Hazuki has made his way to China in order to hunt down his father's killer, but not before (how serendipitous) meeting a lovely looking travelling companion who goes by the name of Shenhua

Remember It

Growing pains

Many of you probably have the plot of Final Fantasy VII memorised, but Square Enix has hinted that the release's PlayStation 4 remake – which was announced earlier this week to rapturous response– could deviate from the original story. "We've announced an HD port version on the PS4, and then we have the remake coming to PS4," director Tetsuya Nomura told GameSpot. "You'll have this extremely, very, very pretty Final Fantasy VII existing on the same plane. We feel that if that happens, why have the same exact game?"

The Final Fantasy VII lineup for the PS4 is very confusing, so before we progress, let's take a moment to clean things up: the HD port that Nomura's referring to is a direct conversion of the PC version of the PSone classic, while the remake is a complete reimagining of the 1997 smash built from the ground-up for Sony's new-gen machine. It's this latter title that could end up taking a slightly different narrative path. But do you want story elements to be tweaked, or are you hoping for an identical experience?
