Building a new computer. Suggestions?
« on: March 11, 2003, 07:29:00 PM »
I have been workin\' quite abit of overtime lately and I have money to spare. Recently I have had the urge to build a new computer. The one thing I can\'t decide on is what kind of motherboard.

Here is my only requirements.

Dual CPU\'s
1 Gig of RAM

I am not overly picky. Just alittle suggestions  what you may own or may have experince with.

going dual CPU isnt practical since very few programs take advantage of it (yes, they must be programmed to do so)

i\'m not going get into an intel vs amd topic, but pick one, and throw as much ram at it as you can afford

I\'m with mm. Dual processors aren\'t really that great for most users when considering value for money. You might want to look into Hyper Threading though. But it\'s only available on the P4 3.06 GHz so far.

I don\'t know how soon you want a new PC... but AMD\'s Athlon 64 is due some time September and should be interesting. As the name implies it\'s a 64 bit CPU with 32 bit also in hardware.

I didn't notice the date on this thread, I thought it was a new one. when he said his requirements were 1 gig ram, I really thought he wasn't overly picky.
