Non-Sony cables voiding warranty????
« on: December 26, 2000, 04:51:20 PM »
Here is a review of the InterAct S-Video cable that I read on Amazon.com, there was also another one similar to this.  I have been wondering what cables (S-Video, Optical) for quite a while now, and was looking through this:

"Reviewer: A gamer from New York, NY
Using this item for your PS 2 will nulify your warranty as it is not manufactured by Sony. Unfortunately, Sony neglects to warn us consumers of this stipulation. I was unable to find a Sony S-video cable so I bought this one. After talking to a Sony tech. I was informed that this inferior PS 2 S-video cable has reconfigured the PS 2 output port (how?) and thus has broken the DVD playback function of my PS 2. In order to have my PS 2 fixed, I now have to send it in for testing, ect, ect and will be charged for it. I am outraged at Sony and at this 3rd market S-video cable producer and am warning you not to make the same mistake. According to Sony, they are having massive problems with all non-Sony manufactured products for the PS 2, such as DVD remotes, cables, ect. but still are neglecting to warn the consumers. Although the Sony products are 3 times as expensive and the third market manufacturer\'s products, I would recommend that you spend the extra money for it and keep your 90 day Sony warranty intact."

I have decided to go with the Gamelink 300 & Lightwave 100 (S-Video & Optical cables by Monster) this wouldn\'t pose a similar threat to voiding my warranty would it, or crash my DVD capability as Monster is NOT Sony.  I thought they were working together.  Could somebody give me some more info.
