PS2 definately BETTER BUY !
« on: December 30, 2000, 08:08:17 AM »
OK now im definately bias towards PS2 cause thats what I have and its great. It plays DVD great too. Now some people say thats not a factor, wrong answer! I didnt have a DVD player until a bought my PS2, and DVDs are getting extremely popular now, so if I would have chosen Dreamcast @ $199.99 I still would have to purchase a DVD player @ $169.99(thats even cheapest one)that comes out to $370.00. I payed $299.99 for PS2 so besides the fact that it has better graphics, and it plays old PS games, and will soon have just as many or more games to choose from then DC, it is a good buy , its just plain and simply better than dreamcast, period.
Dallas Cowboys are still America\'s team, if you disagree i\'ll kill ya !

Well, the money is coming out of your pocket so I hope you think PS2 is a better buy.  Going out of business or not, Dreamcast is definately a great gaming platform.  It has produced some of the best games.  My DC will definately keep me occupied til Fall 2001.  That will be the time when I decide if I\'ll get PS2, NGC or XBox.  PS2 might be great but something tells me that Gamecube and XBox will be in a class of their own.

It isn\'t better than Dreamcast yet.  It will probably take a year and a half for PS2\'s library to compare to DC\'s.
It seems as if the people [casual gamers] that we consider to know absolutely nothing are the ones that actually know the most important thing: Name brands don\'t make the console, games do.

???

Uh...wrong.

First of all, DC is $149. Second, buying a stand-alone DVD Player with the DC is cheaper than $300. Plus you get two machines to use simultaneously. Wanna play PS games? Buy a PS. That comes out to less than $400 for 3 stand-alone machines that can be used simultaneously, provided you have the TVs. Or you can get Bleemcast, if it ever comes out.

Your logic us flawed. I thought the games were the reason to get a console.
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

Uh, actually you can get a DC for free when you sign up for two years of Seganet. That pretty much replaces the ISP you have now (Unless you have broadband already) since nearly all services I\'ve seen cost roughly 20 bucks a month for unlimited service. Seganet\'s is 21 bucks per month for unlimited service, plus it\'s been highly optimised to reduce latency for online gaming.

I\'m pretty sure the service works with broadband as well, so there really should be no problems using it for your ISP on the PS2 when the HDD/Broadband modem finally comes out unless Sony pulls some bonehead move and blocks all Seganet users.

Now this is a matter of opinion, but I\'ve never owned more than 30 games for any particular console so if I can get at least 20-30 good games out of the system then I see that as well worth my money. Frankly, if you can\'t find at least 10 games on the DC you are interested in, then there\'s something wrong with you. Plus the DC is only one year old here in the states which means there\'s plenty of time for good games to come out as the years roll by.

The Dreamcast is the better deal right now. It damn well better should be given it has a head start on the PS2. I can understand you prefering the PS2.. but ya gotta give the DC credit where credit is due.

Ashford? Why buy a PSone when game developers will soon enough stop making games for it? Getting a PS2 is better than getting a PSone. Makes sense to me.

Glad that you found your opinion, Kev.

Someones here can\'t really deside; me for one. That\'s why deciding whether to buy PS2 or not was hard one. I can\'t say that it\'s the BEST console around; I just haven\'t played the other consoles - I don\'t own DC; it could be a very good console, I haven\'t seen GC; what will come out of it? X-box is hiding on the background - beauty or a monster?

I\'ll find my opinion trough these few years. My opinion lies on the rocks of experiment. When I\'ve experienced all the consoles I can really decide.

You see, that\'s never. But that\'s what I am.

PS2 seems the best choice for me personally, but 100 prosent I can\'t be. I\'m not a foreteller, you see? :)

Never count your consoles before ther\'re hatched. Its just not right to say this one wins or this other one, partly because u haven\'t even played the others yet. Many of you probally haven\'t seen then RSII or Zelda Video Demos yet. So yet u can say "I think" or "In my opinion" But not running in Console land yelling one has already won.

over here in the uk, if you buy a dreamcast for £199 you get a dvd player free.
me thinks that is their way of matching up to the ps2.

for 200 dollars less and with a library of already 150 more games. And people wonder why it shocks me when people buy PS2 over DC :)

I\'m not telling anyone to get a PS2 to play PS games. I\'m saying this guy\'s logic is flawed and his facts are wrong.

DC is not $199.

A DVD player can be cheaper than $169, as low as $99.

Playing PS games is only a minor advantage. If thats all you\'re interested in, why not pay $100 for a PS 1?

Get a PS2 for the games. Stop touting DVD movies and PS-compatibility as the major selling points.

I already have a DVD player. Also, Dreamcast is like $150 now. So, you could get dreamcast for $150 with tons of great online games, or you could get PS2 for $300 right now, with a couple good games to find out of its small library.

What I\'m doing is just keeping my ps (FFIX) and n64 (Zelda), until PS2 costs less and GC comes out.
