Speaker connection question

I\'m planning to buy a speaker system to take advantage of PS2\'s audio capabilities and after much searching I decided to get an Altec Lansing\'s ADA880 since this the only one that I could afford with Dolby Surround Sound ($120). The problem with this speaker is that it doesn\'t have an optical input but it does have an RCA type S/PDIF input and an analog input (Diagrams can be seen on the following link)

So my question is can I connect this kind of speakers to the PS2 or should I just buy those speakers by Cambridge (PS2000 Digital or DTT2500) which costs a bit more but they are guaranteed to work with the PS2. Thanks in advance for all the help, I really appreciate it.

It looks like you\'ll either have to get the Speaker system that is compatible with optical input or get a converter (TOSlink --> S/PDIF).

It\'s probably just better to get the compatible system rather then shelling out money for a converter.

That picture makes no sense for what he needs.  You are showing an RCA input and a Optical output.  The PS2 already does the Optical output.  

I couldn\'t really tell off of that PDF, but it looked like it had two inputs, a regular computer mini plug input and an RCA input.  That RCA I assume is suppose to be Digital Coax?  If that\'s the case then the PS2 wouldn\'t work with it since it only has optical output for digital.  I don\'t know if there is an adapter to change optical to Digital Coax.  Unless the thing that THX is showing also works in the reverse manor.  Then it would work fine.

hopya- Just forget I even put that there.  Go with the Cambridge PS2000 Digital or DTT2500 if you are on a budget.

before you buy the pro logic speaker, i recommend you to rethink and buy true dolby digital 5.1 (or dts 5.1) because it have both the digital optical and coaxial cables jack.
for around 200 - 300, i think you can get a decent 5.1 sound channels.  but of course, you need more speakers if you only have 2.....and don\'t forget the subwoofer too!
