500 million dollars, what are these guys expecting, "A miracle"
« on: January 03, 2001, 07:09:49 AM »
That msxbox.com site ****ing pisses me off.  First off before I continue, I would like to make a comment on the "X-Box", now if I was mistaking did, MS said there system would be revolutionary, now it looks like a ****ing rip off to me, now I know the X-Box will be sucessful, I\'m not saying it looks to bad, but I was expecting a little bit more from this system.  And I have no comment on that damn controller, Nintendo I advise you to sue(LOL).  All in all it\'s a great system, but I think the pS2 looks far better, I just can\'t stand green.

Now about this 500 million dollars, Bill Gates said he believes he can steal all of those gamers out there with this money because of the limted supply of PS2\'s. He\'s got a point, but just ask, Sony, Nintendo, and Sega.  In this world of gaming you have to make a name for yourself, you can\'t just show a system and one game and say buy my system.  That would be so dumb.

The more I think about it, the more I think xbox will be 3rd or 4th in the race.

By xbox launch ALOT of peeps will have either a PS2 and/or a DC. Those left are probably waiting for a GC.

That said, xbox will only have a small piece of pie left. Plus those who buy multiple consoles, which I have to think is not a high number.

Very true, that\'s why i\'m doing my poll back over, those numbers will change, and this time I\'m adding the DC to the poll.

I believe, since Sega does have a name establish, and they are now setting up a good reputation.  Microsoft better look twice when they look at the DC, this system may ends MS chance on the market.

You got there right mm. Gates is a thief. He got to be the worlds richest man because he was a master thief and back-stabber. Steve Jobs should sue him...

Gates could be fool, but he\'s master at marketing. Like I said; it\'s getting interesting. Will Gates F\'ck up or make X-Box a success?

The more I think of it, the less I want to support the system; even if I have said that I\'d buy the console if I\'d have the money.

You guys seem to be questioning the console, and it\'s potential success, with arbitrary standards. One one question should be asked. What games are on it? Who cares if Gates is a theif? If you want to start pointing fingers for stupid things, Sony stole the whole idea of an analog controller from Nintendo, and Sega stole online games from Xband and the like. Quite being stupid and judge a system by its own merits. \'They stole the controller.\' Who cares, they combined the best features to make what looks like one of the best controllers ever. \'It looks like 3D0.\' First of all, no it doesn\'t. I also have a 3D0 (original front loading model) and it has little in common. The system looks sweet. \'I\'ll wait for the games, the games will tell.\' Yea, they will, so why are any of you questioning a purchase now? Judge later when such things are reveiled. Besides, Munch\'s Oddysee is worth the price of admission IMO.

Damn EThugg, That is exactly what I was going to say. The controller looks off the hizzle fo shizzle.

BTW, You guys underestimate what $500 million can buy. All Microsoft needs to do is put a nice ass commercial during the SuperBowl showing some nice graphics and the Hype machine will kick into 4th or 5th gear. I don\'t see any reasons why the X-Box should not be bought(This is assuming that they get the games).

My opinions about Gates have nothing to do with my decision of whether of buying the console or not. The pad must be tested before judging.

Now there\'s one question that bugs me. It\'s about X-boxes longetivity. Is it only the hype? Is it the launch? How far will X-box go?

Launch is important but doesn\'t solve the future.

GC interests me from another aspects. First it will have some of my favourite games on 128 bit. I don\'t care if they look childish; the only thing matters is that I like them. Like Starfox 3. 3rd party developers. There\'s some but Nintendo needs more.

Like I said before, business is stealing. "Good artist copies, great artist Steals". Gates can do this. He can combine the best parts of certain things and come up with his solution. One proof is Windows. Even if buggy it still is the easiest and most popular OS. It copied or even stealed a lot from Xerox and Apple, especially Macintosh.

And looks don\'t make the console. I\'m waiting for Munch\'s Oddysee too; I was quite disappointed to hear that it didn\'t make to PS2... Bloody Oddworld Inhabitants :)

Well I\'m not questioning a purchase, I\'m not getting one.

The only thing I\'m questioning (not judging) is what kind of market share will be available to xbox. I think it will end up with a market share on the order of the DC\'s.

But again, this is TOTAL speculation. Who knows?! If MS can pull off a marketing blitz like we\'ve never seen, maybe even I will think I have to get one;)

As far as games.. I see ALOT of ports. Let me explain.

MS is new to the console bussiness. Where then can the games come from?? They come from the developers that have been making games for Sega, Nintendo, and Sony, that\'s where. Also they come from PC developers.

Sony has a first/second party
Sega has a "   "  "   "    "
Nintendo has "  "   "  "  "

Here\'s the rub--- Ms has first party development, but those are the developers for PC, now diverted to Xbox. Add to that the ports of Sega/Sony/Nintendo developers.

I think Xbox may end up with 10% original content and 90% "ports". That to me is no good, no matter the specs.

IMO:)

Ummm.... I\'d like to say to that Cyg, Sony was in the same situation, where do you think all the PSX developers came from? Nowhere? That\'s right, they were developing for Sega and Nintendo and the PC. I don\'t care about the ports to originals ratio as much as the crap to quality ratio. MS will be going after the same market as PS2, namely, the mainstream one. This ensures a large quantity of garbage for both systems. I think both systems, will enjoy a large market share, my prediction, soley assuming all systems hit their mark:

Market share for 128 bit systems:
Sony (PS2 only):25-35%
MS: 25-35%
GC:20-25%
DC:15-20%

BothMS and Sony duke it out for mainstream success, it can lean either way, but wont due so too much. Nintendo and Sega will hold strong with the core gamers, with the big N pulling a bit ahead due to Pokemon and the kids market.
These are just my guesses, but at least I\'m not basing my desicions on how the system looks, or stupid **** like that, as some are in the other huge XB thread.

In the end, I feel there\'s enough games for every system to warrent purchase. So I\'ll have the best of all worlds. :)

EThugg, I actually would love to see the market split up like you show. All would win.

I still think one of the four are going to be slammed (10-15% share). I can\'t say who and no one can, but I honestly don\'t think there\'s room for four.

Beleive me, I hope I\'m wrong.

I think you are all right when u say that bill gates is a fool! I admire him for building up microsoft and becoming one of the richest men in the world, but he can\'t just take over the console industry!
I think this is what the console race results will be:
1)PS2
2)Gamecube
3)x-box
4)Dreamcast

Actually Ethugg I HIGHLY doubt that.  Sony was NOT in the same situation, Nintendo made a huge mistake of using cartridges.  That\'s why the Playstation was such a success.  Sony basically had a lucky break.(And I\'m very happy about it too:D).  Guess what???  Nintendo still sold 38 million systems.  Even if you\'re beloved Xbox does well, it won\'t have the kind of luck that the PS did when it started.  Nintendo and Sony have good names, have you got the same thing to say for Microsoft?

So the market share would be more like this(My Opinion)-

PS2-30-40%
Gamecube-20-30%
Xbox-10-20%
Dreamcast-10-20
Square and Chocobos Rule

I think ChocoboSquared is right in every aspect except I think DC will still do better then XB because DC has awsome first party games like sonic(just one of many examples)

Uhhhh...ChocoboSquared, I didn\'t mention Sony\'s position in that context. I said most of the developers for the system at the start were developers from other consoles. I never said anything concerning them being in the same exact position as MS is in. Look at CygnusXI post before mine, It was in that context. What I said was totally correct. And aside from Pokemon, and the kid market, Nintendo is in the same position as Sega this Gen. They are still using a proprietary media, and rely on 1st parties to carry em. I think my projection is fairly accurate, also, the consoles were launched far enough apart to have a market for each. My numbers were only my guess.
