DISCLAIMER: If you are reading this thread then you have knowingly and willfully defeated 7, 8, and 9 through and through and have seen each of their endings.  If you want to participate in this thread without beating the games and having your opinion mean something other then utter BS, please visit chv.net and download the endings to each of the games in the series and form your own insight yourself.  You have been warned that this thread has heavy spoilers so if by reading it without beating any of the games makes you feel like I have in some way ruined your experience, then please feel free to go bang your head against the wall because you were warned.

---End Disclaimer---

Each ending for the three titles on the PSX was unique to say the least. They had their ups, their downs, and most certainly their own sense of joy, but which is the best?  That\'s what this thread is about and if you don\'t care about my opinion, then stop reading and hit the reply button because that\'s what the next few paragraphs is about.

VII: I\'d have to say that FF7 as a game was the best of the three on the PSX.  Sure, the ending left much to be desired, but it dealt with the overall conflict surprisingly well.  The Earth was saved and life goes on.  The worst part of it had to be the fact that after knowing so much about the characters, you never found out what happened to them at the end, cept say Aerith who was resurrected in the whole Life Force protection planet effort.  If there was more character history, maybe then we would all be satisfied, but instead, it felt cheapened and foul and having to imagine our characters fate after so many hours of story telling just kinda leaves you, blank.

VIII: Out of the three, 8 had the WORST gameplay elements, but it\'s ending was nothing short of superb and imo, the best of the three.  It wrapped up everything in a neat 13 minute package.  It was a typical perfect hollywood ending, but the game was so typical to begin with that what you saw at the ending just wasn\'t surprising at all.  The nly downfall at the end of beating the game was your lack of care for the characters.  Who wants to care for those who dont care for themselves?  If only 7 and 8 reversed endings, we just might have enjoyed it a lot more.

IX: The game was an amalgam of both 7 and 8\'s gameplay styles, but I felt this ending was the worst of the three.  Square just got lazy and the ending showed this in every possible way.  Come on, Zidane running on a vine as a 3D poorly rendered polygonal model while the CG BG moved frantically in the back?  Why not just make Zidane CG to begi with?!  God, that just cheapened the whole experience.  3D models on CG bg\'s might cut it in game, but for an ending with the past CG masterpieces of 7 and 8 to be cut down to an in-game ending is just poor.  After 7 and 8\'s fallies, you\'d figure 9 to be perfect, but alas, it turned out to be even more poor then the other two, ending wise that is.

I\'d go into gameplay, but this thread is about endings so lets keep it that way mmmkay?
Don\'t you ever touch my cape.

Well Ryu said a mouthful there. But what he said was true. FFVii\'s ending was decent but still unfullfilling. It leaves you wondering.......Ok they saved the earth and aerith is back, wat now? and ur left to assume they all live happily ever after. FFIX on the other hand was a big disappointment. As ryu said the scene with Zidane running on the vines wasn\'t done in CG and although there are two endings, it still leaves you feeling............What...? thats it?!?!? youve got to be F**ken kidding me.......
FFVIII, although with its incredibly horrible battle system, had  the best ending. Needless to say, it was a graphical masterpiece. It also gives you a clue about what happens to the characters in the end. The countless hours you spend drawing and playing is worth it after watching the ending.
Oro?!?

Definitely FF VIII got the best ending and also for the credits that they made for it was so natural and realistic FMV (+ Funny), I like it :D The best ending i\'ve seen so far in a game.
