If you are not going to play it for a long time, its best to turn it off.

Outlined in the instruction manual :)
I met him 15 years ago, I was told there was nothing left, no reason, no concious, no understanding and even the most rudamentory sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong, I met this 6 year old child with this blang pale emotionless face and, the blackest eyes, the devils eyes, I spent 8 years trying to reach him, and then another 7 trying to keep him locked up because I realised what was living behind that boys eyes was purly and simply evil.

Read the manual..

You have to go up to the machine to put it into stand-by and also take out out of standby, so why not just turn it off too?

I personally have mine plugged into my stereo.  I put mine into standby and then when I turn the stereo off, it goes off too.  This keeps me from forgetting about it and leaving it on all night.

They need a way to wake the system out of standby with the controller.  I really see no reason for the same by since you have to go up to the machine to do it anyway.
I wear a necklace now because I like to know when I\'m upside down.

Since i bought my PS2 I never put off the machine, I use the standby mode.

*sigh*....believe me, no matter what anyone else tells you, it really doesn\'t matter....if you turn it off it\'s fine if you want to keep it in standby mode that\'s fine too. It won\'t hurt your prescious PS2...these things are more durable than people give them credit for...(at least mine is) it was designed to be in standby mode so it\'s okay to leave it in standby mode.... :)
Playstation 2...yeah, I got that:D
