PS2 with a hard disk . . .
« on: January 08, 2001, 06:17:12 AM »
How does this sound ?

With a hard drive inside the PS2, and a connection to a PC, could it not be possible to buy a game online and download it to your PS2s hard disc?  Imagine the possibilities!

Sonys planning on doing the same type of thing, minus the PC - some form of broadband connection and hdd which will be placed in the expansion bay on the more recent PS2s and since it may well be Sony content (with some form of access to the net) there may well be a chance to buy games online without the need for \'hard media\' such as dvds or cd-roms. Interestingly enough on the PC/PS2 linkup side of things I read on Playstation Center that there seems to be a PS2 form of the Dexdrive, USB connectivity and all :)

I read somewhere that the next Tomb Raider game could consist of weekly episodes you download to your hard drive (rumor?). Every week you get a couple more levels for a low price. Sounds... err... kinda unpractical in some ways, yet it might work quite well. We\'ll see... we\'ll see...

It does open up many possibilities, but if the price is too high and people don\'t go out for them darn things it might be a bad move... I\'m really suspicious about all kinda add-ons...

Agreed Hawke, though HDDs are so cheap now.  For the cost of 2 games a decent sized HDD could be installed.  If Sony expects the PS2 to thrive after the release of the Xbox, then they\'ll make it an affordable upgrade.  I\'m just curious about where a modem is going to go if the slot in the rear is for an HDD?

i dont think this is a rumour. i read it in my issue 2 of official playstation2 magasine.
if it does actually happen though i dot think i would be using it thoug as i prefer to have my games upfront without having to wait fo extra "episodes". even though i play planetarion.
