You may think that Gran Turismo 3 is going to be king of the lookers in the racing genre, but Climax Brighton have other things in mind for the Playstation 2.
The company have developed a new graphics engine specific to racing games called \'Dyne Vehicle Dynamics Technology\', which according to reports is capable of displaying up to 19 MILLION polygons per second, as well as diplaying all those extra special effects such as heat haze, motion blur and - wait for it - no jaggies without s-l-o-w-d-o-w-n.
This could make Gran Turismo\'s paltry six cars on screen look silly as this new engine is apparently capable of displaying up to twenty at a time.
Reports suggest that several big-named software companies are already in negotiations with the company to get their hands on this little gem, and since Climax Brighton are currently developing Mille Miglia for the PS2, we can expect to see the results of the technology before the end of the year. We can hardly wait.

Sounds very impressive, can\'t waitto see if they can make something out of it ! Also this just reaffirms my belief that althought gran turismo 3 is unquestionably a spectacular looking game with some of the best graphics seen to date on the ps2. It is still merely a pushed back first gen title. Hell it was one of the very first games shown for the ps2 way back when. It appears that many people were right about the generational leaps that this system is going to make. Well we will have to wait and see but it looks promising.

Climax Perfects PS2 Motorsports Engine

Climax Brighton completes work on its high performance motorsports engines for PlayStation 2.

November 20, 2000

Climax Brighton today announced the completion of its PlayStation 2 Motorsports engine entitled Climax Motorsports. The engine boasts performance levels that are roughly double the optimum suggested by Sony in its official documentation and will utilize Climax\'s proprietary Dyne Vehicle Dynamics libraries.
The Climax Motorsports technology gives the developer a substantial head start in developing a Motorsports title that is Triple A quality and could be completed by Christmas 2001.

Commenting on the Motorsports Engine, Climax MD Tony Beckwith said "Motorsports is an increasingly competitive area for publishers and development time on PS2 is vitally important. We’ve already seen a dip in the market this year as publishers and developers make the transition - the market needs product and it needs it quickly. Our technology offers publishers a springboard for product out in time for the all important Christmas 2001 season without comprising on quality."

The Motorsports Engine has the flexibility to create exciting race games in a wide variety of environments including, track based, point to point, free roaming or City based with in excess of 20 vehicles on screen at any one time, with no noticeable slowdown.

With additional atmospheric features like Motion Blur, Heat Haze and fully motion-captured spectators Climax’s Motorsports Engine demonstrates the impressive abilities of the PlayStation 2.

Mille Miglia Headed Towards PS2

The PlayStation 2 is being graced with one of the most prestigious events in the motor-racing world.

August 21, 2000

SCi Entertainment Group announced today that Climax Brighton plans to develop a PlayStation 2 game that\'s based on the Mille Miglia race, which is one of the most prestigious events in the world of motor racing. In a race that spans 1,000 miles of scenic Italian countryside, the Mille Miglia has racers drive from Brescia in the North to Rome in the South and back again -- this celebrated event has been taking place annually since 1927.
SCi\'s Mille Miglia will concentrate on the event\'s \'classic period\', featuring cars manufactured between 1929 and 1957, like the Aston Martin DB2 Berlinetta, Ferrari 860 Monza Spider Scaglietti and the Mercedes 300 SLR. Racing legend, Stirling Moss, will act as a development advisor for the game, ensuring that the content of the game is an accurate representation of the adrenaline-packed and visual splendour of the Mille Miglia race. Moss set a record in his Mercedes 300 SLR, completing the course in 10 hours, 47 minutes and 48 seconds during 1955 - an astounding record that still stands to this very day.

"The Climax Group\'s excellent reputation as a development company played a major part in our decision to select them to develop the PlayStation 2 version of Mille Miglia," said Jane Cavanagh, SCi Entertainment Group. "Its Next-Gen racing abilities are also highly sought after, in particular its impressive Bezier patch and physics technologies. It is also a bonus that Climax has some superb ideas on how to make this a really special game indeed!"

"It is a major coup for the Climax Group to win the PlayStation 2 contract to develop a game based on the prestigious Mille Miglia license," said Karl Jeffery, President, Climax Group. "SCi Entertainment Group has been extremely professional in its dealings with Climax, and has proven that it will be a PlayStation 2 publishing force to be reckoned with."

"The Mille Miglia is referred to by those in the know as \'the most beautiful race in the world\'," said Tony Beckwith, Climax Brighton. "And at Climax Brighton, we\'re confident that our rendition of the game will become known as \'the most beautiful racer on PlayStation2\' as well."

SCi Entertainment Group will publish Mille Miglia on PlayStation 2 during Christmas 2001.

Nothing really new here though.  There whole website doesn\'t look like it\'s been updated in quite a while.

They\'ve been squawking about this one for a long time, but there numbers keep going up with each report.

I\'ll take the wait and see attitude, but if they really can get 19 million polygons persecond with full effects then I am equally awaiting more games pushing the same limits from different genre\'s.

Still I try to take it with a grain of salt, because in all honesty the PS2 launch has humbled my expectations on all systems. But thats just because I\'m more knowledgeable about how the whole console model works, and the progression/learning curves of devs

I wonder if this engine will apply well to Rally Games.

Since someone posted the pix of World Rally Championships(with all the licensed rally cars), I\'m hoping there\'s gameplay to back up probably the most beautiful graphics I\'ve set eyes on for a racing game.
