PS2 online THIS spring in Japan!

I\'m not one to post news that often, but this one is pretty big!

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (Sony Japan) believes that the more than 4 million PlayStation 2 owners in Japan will be able to play games on the Internet as early as this spring.
Eight Japanese publishers and developers, as well as peripheral companies, have plans to bring their Internet-ready games to the PlayStation 2 this spring. These companies include Square Co., Enix, and many others. Using Conexant System\'s newest technology, Square plans to bring Final Fantasy X exclusively to PS2, and Enix plans on readying a Web-enabled Dragon Quest to the PS2, also.

I can almost say for sure that it will be early fall of this year. BEFORE the x-box launch

I suspect that something will happen, and things won\'t go as planned.  This upcoming spring seems a little early IMO...

But wasn\'t that their original plans? To get the online thing running in the spring 2001 in Japan? Perhaps I\'m just not remembering it correctly. Can anyone confirm this?

No Sam.... there was never (before now) a official expected date. I\'m not impressed.... I don\'t know of any good online games in development...except a FF game... me thinks they are scared of XB and decided to release prematurely. Or so the Germans would have us believe!.........

Well, it doesn\'t really matter to me. I\'m probably not going to get online with it anyway, because I live in a small country of only 5,000,000 people. At least the Dreamcast isn\'t going online here, so I don\'t think PS2 will either - not if you\'re gonna have to use a special Sony network. I already have DSL (a lot of us have) but I want to be able to use that connection. I can\'t afford to pay another $50 a month or so to get online with PS2. I only want to pay for broadband that is useable with BOTH my PC and any consoles I might have/get in the future.

Everything comes out in March...just watch... j/k

But seriously, watch them announce everything in March...  Re-release, excellent time to tell everyone what your plans are and when things are comming out.  Would definetly be a booster to their sales...

Me know they have games like Tenchu 3 almost ready and alot of games such as MGS2 ready for online... sony may look like they are going to take this sitting down but your are more then wrong. And no they will not release it prematurly, especially in japan where they know they have no threat from the directportbox.
