Correct way to power down

This has probably been asked a million times, but...How would i go about putting my PS2 in standby mode?  I don\'t have my PS2 yet(2 more days!) but i\'ve heard people complaining at the ign boards about screwing up their PS2s by now shutting down properly.  How is it done correctly??

Its simple hold the reset button until the lLED turns RED

end of story

if you go on Vacation turn the power switch on the back off, otherwise its unecessary

1.) Take disc out of machine, close tray.
2.) Hold reset button for a second to put the machine into standby when not in use.
3.) At the end of the day turn the PS2 off using the switch on its back.

Its a easy enough routine to get into and probably worth it if your a little paranoid about the safety of your machine

When do i eject the disk???

When youve finished playing the game and want to put the machine into standby/switch it off.

You DO NOT have to take the disk out of the tray

You DO NOT have to urn off the PS2 at the end of the day

Thats BS bd, I never do and I have no problems at all, the machine was designed to be in stand by mode, and the only time you need to power it down is your not planning on using it for a couple of weeks.

I would however  suggest a surge protector

ddaryl: I cant remember claiming in my post that this was the only way to shut down a PS2 safely or that it was the routine which you followed. JC632X can take or leave the advice as he wills, but what Ive posted is what I personally recommend, discredit it if you must.

well thats your choice but I find it weird or almost anal to go though that whole ritual every day.

but take it with a grain of salt. I\'ve seen so many people on the web that insist you can not leave it in stand by mode

I\'m anal. I turn it off . I then turn off the EXTENSION plug its plugged into. And so on.
