Apple Computer on Monday announced that it is shipping the 733MHz Power Mac G4 with the SuperDrive, which combines CD and DVD reading and recording capabilities. The system, introduced at last month\'s Macworld Expo San Francisco, ships with Apple\'s new iDVD authoring software, which allows users to create interactive presentations on DVD media using a simple drag-and-drop interface. The system also ships with Apple\'s iTunes and iMovie2 software. Apple is also offering DVD Studio Pro, a $995 DVD-authoring program aimed at creation of commercial DVD titles.
"The new Power Mac G4 with SuperDrive is the industry\'s first complete solution for CD and DVD authoring," said Philip Schiller, Apple\'s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "The combination of Apple\'s amazing SuperDrive, super-fast MPEG2 encoding software and easy-to-use iDVD application is a real breakthrough."

The standard $3,499 configuration includes a 733MHz PowerPC G4 processor with 256K level 2 on-chip cache and 1MB level 3 backside cache; 256MB of PC133 SDRAM memory; 60GB Ultra ATA/100 hard disk drive; Nvidia GeForce2 MX with 32MB video SDRAM; two FireWire and USB ports; four PCI slots; Gigabit Ethernet; and a built-in 56K V.90 modem. Systems are available through the Apple Store and from authorized Apple resellers.

Apple has said that it expects the recordable DVD technology to appeal to creative professionals in ad agencies and design firms who want to prepare client presentations, and resellers have said that many of their customers have expressed interest in this capability. The SuperDrive, developed by Pioneer, writes to 4.7GB DVD-R media, which Apple sells in packs of five for $49.95.

Well Apple has done it again, made the cream of the crop its standard for multimedia.  I\'m getting sooooo frikkin sick of Microsoft, but I don\'t have $3500 to spend. :(  When I\'m outta college and finally get a job I will definitely get an Apple machine with all the trimmins.

Wooooooooooohooooooooooo! I read it on a few MAC based sites. The delay wasn\'t near as bad as alot of people was figuring. I read they should have all their pre-orders filled and sent by mid-March. I\'m not sure if I\'ll get the SuperDrive model, with Pioneer and a few others coming out with external DVD-R for the MAC at a decent price. But, this is still excellent news.

I will probablly get my MAC right at the end of March, but I don\'t care. I\'ll still be at the doors of CompUSA come March 24th for OS X! :D

heh. I know it. I\'d like one, but the budget won\'t allow one. Well, it would if I don\'t want a desktop . But, I want a desktop. I guess I\'ll have to wait for the TiPB. But, all good things to those whom wait.:)

http://www.maccentral.com/news/0102/19.superdrive.shtml

There is a site that reports on the G4 733 shippin\' also.

I got around $4,000 to spend on the MAC, so I  may pick up this model. Not sure yet. Was going to get a dual 533, but I don\'t really need the dual processors. Then again, I don\'t really need the DVD-R drive either.:D
