Noise coming from my PS2

Hi.

Firstly, I apologise if this has been repeated in a previous thread, I had a look at some recent ones but could not see it.

I just bought a PS2 a few days ago, I was playing it fine for a few days. Then yesterday I got ISS and after playing it for about 45 mins a very loud noise started coming from within the PS2 box.

A friend of mine also has a PS2 and he says his fan makes a noise, but from the sounds of it, my noise was much much louder than what he describes.

I was just wondering if anybody else has experienced a very loud (kind of grinding) noise coming from within their PS2 and if so, do you know what it is and why it is happening?

I could replace the PS2 I guess, but I want to make sure the noise is not happening because of the ISS CD, the PS2 runs fine on my other games.

ok for starters, is it verticle?If it is verticle, listen to it carefully, does it sound like its comeing from the fan, or somewhere else, like the disk tray. if its flat try the same thing, my dads friend bought one and it was making wired noised, at first i thought it was the fan till i listen more carefully, it was the disk tray vibrating really bad, if thats it the return it A.S.A.P, if its the fan then hmmmm, is it clean? can air pss freely?, if you think its the fan but it sounds that bad, then return it as well, its better to be safe than sorry, especially when your messing with a 300 dollar investment like that

Its horizontal. The noise sounds like the fan, it just seems like it is going beserk, which is weird because I have played other games for much longer than 45 mins.

I thought I would also add that box seems to read the ISS CD more harder (if thats the right word to use) than the other CDs, i.e. you can hear the CD whizzing around in the tray a lot more than other CDs.

But yeah, its a heavy investment so I think I will be getting it replaced!

Yea it happend to me too just yesturday... I was playin TS and a wierd noise came from the fan. Call up Sony and ask aboout where to send it. I\'m sending it to get it fixed tomorrow... that means no PS2 for me for about a month

I haven\'t heard any very loud noises, but PS2 is usually quite loud-noised; you can hear it if it\'s all quiet or if you sit near to the console.

Sometimes the console kinda "screams"; a loud creeeeek comes out and then it\'s gone. Nothing lasting, but sometimes it can scare the h3ll outta you if it comes unnoticed and if you\'re deeply diven into the game you\'re playing.

But I haven\'t noticed any scratchs on the discs after the "scream", and the console is always horizontal. I think these sounds come with the package. (???)

a scrrrech!? what the hell, i dont think thats right? i never heard a screech come from my ps2, maybe you sqeezing it to hard in your sleep lol my ps2 has the usual; fan souns not to loud but i dont mind it at all. sorry frackin ol pal for you situation, my ps2 has never had any probs at all, i dont wana curse myself, but its in tip top shape.
