See if it happens both in analog and digital modes.  I don\'t know what you could do with a consumer model but  the cinema processors have a digital sound head delay that you can adjust to sync it up... just a tidbit there.

Troubleshooting the PS2 to death

Believe me, I\'ve run the PS2 with the Analog off before.  It is very strange.  DVD movies will play for a short while, then static will display on the screen and finally it just freezes and you can\'t do anything but reset the console.

Games will generally run up until you select options and play the game. Then it will freeze too.

I own 6 games and 20 DVDs and all have the same effect.  And from what I learned about my PS1 I keep the console away from anything that generates heat (IE. Other electronics or heaters).  I also prop it up off the shelf with two boxes to allow air to cool the bottom of the console.

I wonder if there is a problem with processor handling too much information.  It runs smoothly up until a certain point.  It was even apparent when the synchronization was off, you would have to pause the console to get everything in sync again.
