X-Box/Gamecube Launches
« on: March 16, 2001, 11:47:36 AM »
How many and what games do you think will launch with both the X-Box and Gamecube? How many of each genre? Will one system\'s launch blow away the other\'s, or will they pale in comparison to the PS2s dismal launch titles? Quantity or quality?

I\'m pretty sure X-Box will have at least one Microsoft game, and I\'m saying the launch will consist of 10-15 games. I\'m not sure if Abe\'s Oddysey is set for launch or not... can anybody clear that up? The usual Madden 2002 and probably a few other sports titles will be available. Unless a modem is packaged with a sytem, I don\'t see many online games at launch. Actually, I think Microsoft is being more secretive about the X-Boxs launch than Nintendo is with the Gamecube.

Nintendo has stated they are trying to get 4-5 internally made games for launch (EAD, HAL, etc.). Rumours about the cancelled Mother 3 (Earthbound 2), 1080 Snowboarding, and Excitebike Cubed are in the air until E3. Waverace 2 will most likely be there at launch, and perhaps a Mario Bros. title. I don\'t think we\'ll be seeing a Pokemon title at launch. Rare seems to be trying to get Perfect Dark 2 out for launch, as well. But without a modem packaged with the system, will PD2 not be online or be delayed until a modem is released?

As for third-party titles on Gamecube. Resident Evil Zero will probably be ready, since it\'s been worked on for a while. SSX:Special Edition by EA Canada is supposed to be coming out for both GC and X-Box. There\'s been no indication about sports titles for the Gamecube, but seeing as how Madden 2001 was released for N64, I think we\'ll see a 2002 for GC. Eternal Darkness and maybe Dinosaur Planet may make it to launch.

So, what games do you think will see NA at launch for both the X-Box and Gamecube?

There is a rumor going around that Resident Evil Zero will be shown by Capcom at TGS(Or was it GDC).

Left Field was originally working on a football game for the GC but were told to scrap the idea and work on Metroid. Madden and Sega Sports\' offerings are both supposed to be on the GC this fall.

Sports games are good and everything, but they\'ve never really been a system seller on a Nintendo console.  Nintendo\'s usually provided the system sellers, but the Sports genre adds more to it.  Nintendo does have sports (2nd party).  NBA Courtside, and if you want another one I guess you could consider 1080 Snowboarding.
It seems as if the people [casual gamers] that we consider to know absolutely nothing are the ones that actually know the most important thing: Name brands don\'t make the console, games do.

In the US sports titles sell systems, and thats a fact. If a console launches with a good sprts game(in particular a good football game), they will sell considerably more units.

Okay. I just read one of those Next-Gen magazines and it seems EA is working on Madden 200X (I\'m guessing 2002 here) and a FIFA title for Gamecube. These two as well as the SSX update, and Harry Potter. The James Bond FPS still has to be confirmed by developer Eurocom.

The N64 didn\'t have a football game at launch, yet it broke sells records.  I don\'t think the SNES had a football game at launch, but it broke sales records too.  Like I said before, Nintendo systems usually don\'t have sports games at launch that sell the most systems.  They have Mario for that.

Bad number.  Halo alone makes for one title.  Then you have Oddworld and most likely Azurik and NightCaster, Fuzion Frenzy etc. plus MS did not reveal their full hand first-party wise so I would expect more.

There is no modem from MS ever.  The Xbox will come with an ethernet port but online gaming at launch is very iffy.

As for the GCN I will not venture to guess.

PS2s dismal launch titles?

to each their own,i don\'t share your opinion here..in fact you mentioned a couple of EA sports titles you think might show up on Xbox,so wouldn\'t that leave it dismal too?
