ESPN MLS Extra Time DELAYED....
« on: March 27, 2001, 04:34:18 PM »
Well that\'s it, I\'m about to lose it. I\'ve had one hell of a horrid fortnight - stress, lack of sleep etc. And the only think keeping my sanity was the thought of me getting my grubby mits on this soccer game by the soccer geniuses at KCET and KCEA.

Alas it\'s not to be as it\'s been delayed till April 17th. Honestly, I almost cried this morning when I went to EB\'s website.

It\'s worse enough that Winning Eleven 5 may never make it to North America, and now us North American soccer gamers [Lavan looks around and sees he\'s alone], okay, well just me, will have to wait another month for some footie action.

Was anyone else interested in this game?

Did anyone pick up ESPN National Hockey Night?

I\'m a "North American Soccer Fan" too so don\'t feel alone. I didn\'t really think it was going to be all that good, but I was looking forward to playing it and finding out for myself. Maybe the delay is just to clean up the game for us. :)

Thanks Aaron! I\'m glad I\'m not completely alone, however, I think you may be wrong about the game.

While Gamespot didn\'t like the preview version they played, and nor did IGN, these sites also HATED ISS Pro Evolution and ESPN MLS GameNight for the PSX, both of which were hailed in Europe and Japan as two of the greatest soccer games ever made. I loved both of them, and they\'re first true live-action simulations of the sport of soccer - something most North American videogame sites can\'t quite grasp. Even 8 months after their release I\'m still playing those two games religiously.

At SGN, ESPN MLS GameNight was our Playstation Sports Game of the Year for 2000. From watching videos of ExtraTime it\'s apparent that the same game engine is being used, albeit with slight variations.

I think it\'ll be a brilliant game, that will recieve horrid marks from IGN, Gamespot and DR, because it portrays soccer realistically, and because it\'s one of the harder sports games out there with a pretty steep learning curve. Unlike the celebrated Fifa cr@p that is basically ice hockey on grass.

I\'ll definately be getting the game when it\'s released, I\'ll fill you in on what it\'s like. Be sure to try out ESPN MLS GameNight for the PSX if you haven\'t already - has a steep learning curve, but it plays like real soccer.

Check out my review if you have time;

Lucas,
these games are a lot better than Fifa. The main problem is that the only soccer game most gamers have played is Fifa, so you don\'t really get a taste of anything else. GameNight has a steep learning curve, but it\'s a blast to play. I have three friends that I get together with often to play videogames and while they\'re not soccer fans by any stretch of the imagination they love GameNight - espcially in multiplayer. The biggest appeal if you\'re not a huge soccer fan is that it\'s a true skill based game - you can\'t button mash, and really everything from passing to scoring depends on your skills. As such, when you do win you have an incredible sense of satisfaction, and the game engine is so deep it takes (quite literally) months to master.

It\'s steep learning curve is why IGN and Gamespot hated it, they played it for 5 minutes found it difficult and then lambasted it.

Try it out if you have time.
