Sega got shafted and shafted themselves in sales.
They make some of the most original and fun games, and yet none of them sell. A perfect example is Jet Grind Radio, which also has beautiful graphics. Nobody seems to want to take a chance in buying an innovative game. In fact, nowadays, people are more interested in popular liscences (Tekken, Final Fantasy, TOMB RAIDER) and graphics, then new games. I seem to be the opposite. When I look at my game libraries I despise seeing "2" and "Returns" and "IX" or "The Sequel". I love getting new types of games, however I have those numbered games too. So, in a way, consumers are getting scared, because there\'s so much crap out there (i.e. Superman 64 or Xtreme games for PC) that no one\'s taking a chance in buying these games.
Then again, it\'s also Sega\'s fault. They made too many mistakes in the past, and although Dreamcast was a great step in the right direction, no one could forget those mistakes. Sega CD, 32X, and Saturn, were all huge dissapointments, even though they had there fair share of good games (i.e. Panzer Dragoon). Honestly though... who in the gaming world would go to a store to buy a random game that they aren\'t sure is good. If you go to a store to buy a game, and you see Ridge Racer V on one side and Samba de Amigo on the other, you\'ll likely go for RRV. It\'s sad, but true.
On to X-Box. Many think the X-Box will do horribly, yet if you see the games already announced for it (BEFORE E3!), you can see it won\'t do to badly. Oddworld, Halo, Bounty Hunter, Malice, New Legends, Jet Grind Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon, Metal Gear Solid X, Silent Hill 2, and all those multi-platform games, seem very promising. Once again. Which games would you trust and BELIEVE would be the best? The liscences you know. Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear, and Jet Grind (in the US anyways) will do well. As will Oddworld, since it seems to be the X-Box\'s major title.
Pile of **** they give us for launch games? In response to zip77, I don\'t think any system has had a great launch. Sure, there\'s a title or two that may amaze or surprise you, but nothing else. The good games are as follows: The PS2 had SSX and DOA2 (which was already on DC), the N64 had Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings (some liked it, others didn\'t), SNES had hardly anything except for Super Mario World. The Game Boy Advance US launch looks good, since it\'ll have Castlevania, Mario, F-Zero, and Tony Hawk. Once again... originality?
This is Saotome, signing off.
