Is this the last generation of consoles before it gets real?

With the next generation (PS3 and Ninteno ??) that will come in 2005 or something the reality must be very close.
Is the current war the last one? next war can´t be about graphics, it just can´t. I guess it will be impossible to see any differences between the consoles that comes in 2005.
What do you think?

me, personally i thin that it will be virtual realiy after ps3, and that i dont care about graphics even in this generation!!! the graphics are fine! i just want some kick a$$ games!!!

Seriously, the difference between 4000 polygons per object and 15000 is negligible.  Nowadays all well made games have excellent graphics.  I can see some more improvement, especially to bio-movement and expression in games, but to be honest the quality of story is the most important factor now.  I think that in 5-10 years we will have achieved about as good as we\'ll ever need to have gotten with flat-screen graphics.  High quality VR or sensorial immersion is the wave of the future.

Well, if it\'s true that the new "cell" for the PS3 will be 100-1000 times more powerfull than the PS2.....

What?? Will we be playing games that are CG quality??

Real graphics as in real life looking. Well that happened in Night Trap on the Mega CD (Sega CD).

I think it will be another two generations before we get 3D built worlds that look that relastic its like real life.

I\'m with sammy here.... it won\'t be just 5 years before photo realistic graphics, or anything really in that range. But in 5 years or so certainly we\'ll be getting close to CG quality graphics in game.... scary stuff

Until there\'s decent VR (as in headset/gloves/etc) to actually pull you \'into\' the virtual world, it doesn\'t matter how real the graphics look. A flat screen is a very limiting factor in the goal of realism.

Like Gradman said, it could get scary.
Think about it, graphics so realistic that you can frame
a person for a crime he didn\'t commit.
Lots of videotapes in court as "evidence"
As for videogames : I think governments and parents
orginisations are gonna be speak up when this comes
around because of the realistic violence in games.
Maybe thats when guys like Lieberman will get nasty.

I think it will take much longer time.. if we ever get there.

Hmm.. If we get there.. The games will have FF movie graphics.. But that will be the top.
I really dont belive that you can get better graphics than that

Sonys CGcube has rendered a matrix (just looked like the matrix) scene in real time at 60fps.

Think what the PS3 will be able to do! :eek:

We havent even seen what the PS2 can do yet

PSM2 had a good article about it. (issue 2)
They showed the possible evolution of PS2 games!
Starting at RRV, moving to FF8 CG graphics and so on.
The last picture was from Starship Troopers, they said that PS2 might be able to do this in the 4-5 generation titles.

Only time will tell!

talk about it. but i think that article was kinda crap, but who knows.. mabye x box is less powerful than ps2... ddayrl recently said , a good point too, that the x box and gamecube will be at approxomatly 80% of power, while he said it would take 2-3 generations of games to put ps2 up to 80%... no if we compare games now.. (graphically) who knows....gt3 may be only using 50% of ps2\'s true potential.....
but we have yet to see a good comparison from the other two cuz they aint out yet....
