There should always be room in any gamers library, for a strategy game featuring mechs. Squaresoft\'s Front Mission series and Konami\'s Ring of Red have led the way, but now we finally have a Gundam strategy title from Bandai, to call our own. Most of the games within the genre don\'t have the luxury of having a real established series of mech designs to utilize, which is what makes Mobile Suit Gundam Zeonic Front even more interesting.
Mobile Suit Gundam Zeonic Front, based on the original Gundam TV series, allows the player to experience the "One Year War" from the perspective of the Principality of Zeon. Set in U.C. 0079, the Zeons must fight to regain control of the Earth as the Earth Federation, with its superior resources, begins taking Zeon-controlled territory one battle at a time. The player becomes the commander of a famed mobile suit company and leads his troops in a fight for Principality of Zeon\'s independence from the Earth Federation. The player commands up to three platoons in every mission, and devise his own strategy for accomplishing each mission.
The game is looking excellent so far, with plenty of those impressive PlayStation 2 environmental effects and lighting in place. The draw distance and polygonal models are up there as well.
Mobile Suit Gundam Zeonic Front features an abundant variation of missions, complete with interesting story lines and detailed battlefields, all of which should make the game highly replayable. The fact that Zeonic Front is described as a "real-time" strategy, should definitely be a blessing for those not into the slower turn-based games. We will be sure to follow up with hands on impressions, and a review, in the near future.
Nice game! It\'s almost like Gun Griffin Blaze.
