Hey, open systems are a great idea, but they rarely catch on... just think of the obstacles to overcome (that a large company is already set up to overcome):
- Distribution
- Amateur developers mean more titles, overall less quality.
- Amateur developers have difficulty with distribution.
- Marketing (aiming for a smaller market means less profit - skating closer to edge of \'loss\')
- They are competing against (1) dedicated hardware closed systems (bug free, faster), and truly (2) open systems (PCs and MACs) which have already got a foothold.
I love the idea of more competition in the market, but I don\'t think the games market can take this kind of idea easily....
