Anyone know anything about windows, can you help me out??
« on: May 17, 2001, 12:22:12 PM »
Well this issue with my brothers friends has been going on for quite some time but I think I have had the last of it

A while back when I got my ps2 on launch date and later on i got SSX one of his brothers friends stole my game and made this excuse he didnt do it. I know he has done it and other friends told me secretly it was him, but other then that I dont really have any proof.

And just yesterday My starcraft original cd ( not brood war ) got stolen

Ive had it now, and am willing to ban all his friends from my house. If they dont want to come clean who did it, they all will suffer
The reason my mom doesnt get involved to much is because my parents are divorced and when my mom makes a threat to my brother to shape up and take some responsibility, my brother keeps using his defense point of how he is going to live with my dad and it hurts my mom deep down inside I can tell, and it isnt right at all for my brother to do that and I told him, but he doesnt care for **** ( my dad isnt a bad guy at all, my parents just had their differences. )

But enough of my family history for now, my question is how do I find my starcraft cd key in my registry so I can copy it down and get my friend to make me another original copy??

In your registry do a search for \'starcraft\' and try to locate any series of numbers that resemble a cd key. I\'m not sure if SC does in fact keep the key in there, but it\'s worth a shot.

** If you don\'t know how to access your registry; type \'regedit\' under run... on the start menu.

I\'ll install SC a lil later, and see if I can locate where the key is @.

There are lots of other things you can do besides what you\'re proposing, but I won\'t go into it because it\'s frowned upon on this forum.

I think you should invite your brother\'s friends over for a party, and then steal something from each one of them.  Once you swap the stuff back for your games, then you can ban the dorks from your house.

I don\'t think a CD Key will be blantantly left in the registry but if you want to search for it load regedit.exe in the windows directory and press f3 (i think, its the search option, in one of the menus).

As for your brothers m8s thats just really tight. You need to give them a good ass whooping.

How else could you get Starcraft to work? Well there is a CD Key generator, im not sure if it is legal to use though even if you do own the original copy.

Bah, cd-key generators do not work with Starcraft. Sure you can generate a key to install the game -- but you cannot play on battle.net. If you only wish to play singleplayer then you can go that route.

Half-life\'s key is kept in the registry soo..

Actually, if you make a copy, as long as you don\'t format your computer, you will still have the Key from that game, and you don\'t need to reinstall starcraft.  Easiest way, for now.  I know blizzard doesn\'t make it easy to find their keys in the registry, and I doubt very much they\'ll tell you where it is for security reasons, so other than that you\'re pretty much outta luck.

Here\'s what I\'ll do though.  I had a friend who bought a copy of starcraft and other than the original key, it had 5 more pasted onto it (for some reason) on the outside, all of which worked on BNET, I\'ll see if he still has a free extra one (though he was giving them away before)...

If your friend is on B-net though with your CD Key you will not be able to log on. Only one computer can run a CD Key at any particular time.

Ever gotten booted off and you try to get in and it says you can\'t get on because your CD Key is in use?  Then you sit and wait 30 seconds for it to clear out before you can go in.
