Sega Conference: Sega Announces Naomi 3 Arcade Board
For those who thought proprietary Sega arcade hardware was no more, think again.
June 5, 2001
Were you saddened to learn that Sega\'s proprietary arcade technology had ended with the Naomi 2? Then you may have shed unnecessary tears. According to Japanese website PC Game Watch, Sega will be bringing out a Naomi 3 arcade board in the future, continuing the companies Naomi line which began with the currently dominant Dreamcast-compatible Naomi board.
The announcement came as part of Sega\'s (say it with us) "Contents Strategy Conference," which was held today in Tokyo. Sega didn\'t talk too much about the arcade sector, but it did mention that they were developing content which could not be done in the home. This content includes an all-new Naomi 3 arcade board and the previously announced partnership with Namco and Sony Computer Entertainment.
It\'s unknown what shape the Naomi 3 board will take, or if it will continue to use the Power VR line of graphics chips. We expect Sega to reveal more in the near future.

Geez Sega!! The Naomi 2 isn\'t even out yet and already a new board. If this turns out to be true, then where does this leave their arcade to home ports. Sega......you\'re cool and all, but this is one thing I never liked. Upgrading before even maxing out your older technology
