Try out this game I made!

I am really picky when choosing jobs.  I won\'t get involved with the kind of programming you do, because I don\'t think I could stand that.  I am only going to do video game programming.

It is going to be hard at first, because there are a lot of people who want to work for video game companies.  I will probably either make a game by myself, and hopefully that will get me a job with a more famous company, or I will just form my own company when I get good enough.  It\'s a little depressing thinking about how fast technology is moving.  I have to learn so much in the next 5-10 years if I want to be successful.  I think it will be worth it in the end though.

I won\'t even be out of college by then. :)

I made a website for the games I am programming.  Right now, only Sumasshu is on it.  But I\'ll probably have info on my new game before the end of August.

Mainframes suck and so does COBOL.  Give me a UNIX box any day.

To me, boxing is like a ballet, except there\'s no music, no choreography, and the dancers hit each other

We\'re overlooking the finer details, aren\'t we?  The game was called Jumpman, but it was later re-named.  I guess the proper question(s) should be:

Why did you call it Jumpman, why did you change it to Sumasshu, and why Sumasshu?

I was originally going to call it Jumpman, but then I found out that there were already 2 old games with the name, Jumpman 1 and 2. :)

So I went through a lot of names just trying to figure out a good one, and I finally came upon Sumasshu.  It is Japanese for "smash" in Katakana.  I figured it fit my game nicely, and it had a certain ring to it that I liked, so I stuck with it.

I never replaced the Jumpman name on the title screen at the bottom, so it\'s a little confusing. :)

The reason I haven\'t gone back and fixed it is because my code is all mixed up.  I usually make backups of old code before I do anything huge to my game.  I was going to fix the collision detection one final time to make it perfect, so I made a backup of the old code.  Unfortunately, there were so many backups, I lost track of it. :)  I got very far on my new collision detection, and also added some things to the game to make it more balanced. (In the newer unfinished version, being hit by a block knocks out a certain amount of stars depending on how fast the block is moving.)

I wish I could finish the game, but I have moved onto an even better game.  All I am going to say about it now is that it is a 2D fighting game that will kick some serious butt.  I get excited just talking about it because I like the ideas I have for it so much. :)  Like I said before, expect a beta version out by the end of August.

And yep, my name is Tom Oliphant.  Tell everyone, because I want my name to be famous even before I go out into the real world of programming.  It will make life a little easier for me. :)
