I was originally going to call it Jumpman, but then I found out that there were already 2 old games with the name, Jumpman 1 and 2.
So I went through a lot of names just trying to figure out a good one, and I finally came upon Sumasshu. It is Japanese for "smash" in Katakana. I figured it fit my game nicely, and it had a certain ring to it that I liked, so I stuck with it.
I never replaced the Jumpman name on the title screen at the bottom, so it\'s a little confusing.
The reason I haven\'t gone back and fixed it is because my code is all mixed up. I usually make backups of old code before I do anything huge to my game. I was going to fix the collision detection one final time to make it perfect, so I made a backup of the old code. Unfortunately, there were so many backups, I lost track of it.
I got very far on my new collision detection, and also added some things to the game to make it more balanced. (In the newer unfinished version, being hit by a block knocks out a certain amount of stars depending on how fast the block is moving.)
I wish I could finish the game, but I have moved onto an even better game. All I am going to say about it now is that it is a 2D fighting game that will kick some serious butt. I get excited just talking about it because I like the ideas I have for it so much.
Like I said before, expect a beta version out by the end of August.
And yep, my name is Tom Oliphant. Tell everyone, because I want my name to be famous even before I go out into the real world of programming. It will make life a little easier for me.
