*spits out water*  80kHz!?!?  What speakers do you have man (and are you sure that\'s their range)?  99% of modern speakers usually have a range of up to 22kHz, but I know there are some extended definition speakers that are built with high resolution audio in mind (DVD-A, SACD).  I also know they ain\'t cheap!

But, thought I\'d use this thread to ask a related question.  With the likes of FF:TSWI (which again, to date I\'ve only seen awesome previews of) and then sooo recently viewed the absolutely breathtaking replays in GT3, I gotta ask...When do you think Hollywood will simply kill off highly paid actors for the talents of computer artists such as Squaresoft?  I mean, face it, we can\'t be all that many years away from making movies that frankly look "real" (not mostly real...I mean flat out "Is it live or is it Memorex" REAL).

I believe not. At the time, creating computer generated actors to a believable realism costs a lot. Yes, Final Fantasy wasn\'t a cheap movie. And, if they do many movies like FF - if hollywood starts copying - it\'s going to lose it interest soon. The first \'WOW\'s are already experienced with FF, and I believe no movie can achieve such \'feeling-of-new\' in some time.

It is much easier to pay actors to do the role than spend years on creating one. It\'s eventually cheaper, and will look better. What I believe, is, that the career of stunts are over - not yet but very soon. Computer effects have gone to the point that human eye can\'t separate real from made if it is flashed on the screen quickly. I believe that stunt-tricks will be made with computers in the near future, as they don\'t play such a long part in movies that they would be recocnized as computer-effects.

And, I don\'t think computer-generated actors will never be able to show such emotions as dedicated and good real actors do. Never.

Well, I just saw the movie and I am very impressed.  Not just the people, but the chairs, floor, walls, the mountains and the ice on the lake during the credit roll.  Amazing.  If anything I think the skin was sometimes too rubbery, and the lip movement was too conservative.  But the amount of detail was so amazing.

What concerns me is the plot.  I enjoyed the movie, and when people were put into danger I was gripped, waiting to see how they would get out of sticky situations, but overall the plot didn\'t grab the "non-intellectual" parts of my brain.  And in with that in mind I can understand how those obnoxious teenagers three seats to my left just didn\'t understand, and left the movie half-way through (they also came into the movie 10 min. late, and missed a lot of necessary information).  I\'m afraid that the polot goes above the average viewers head.  

For the more intelectually-prime.  The plot made a perfect full-circle, comparing the dream world to the real world.  I can\'t say much more w/o spoiling the story.  I understood the symbolism, thinking it quite obvious sometimes, but I\'m afraid the youg \'uns of the audiance still haven\'t developed much of their brains.

Oh, and the theater wasn\'t even quarte-full, and it was a small theater too.  I hope it does better than it seems it is.

My fears are of the outcome of box office sales.  If this movie doesn\'t do too well, we may not see another movie like this for a while.

The movie was very FFVIII, with a couple plot touches of FFVII and FFIX, but mostly "felt" like FFVIII.

I can\'t wait for the DVD.

Oh, and that Spiderman preview looked awesome.

Yup, like I said in my thread regarding the movie - I pretty much felt the same way when I watched it and I too was in a theater packed fully of teeny-boppers who you just tell, from their comments after the movie (and unfortunately from a few idiots who chose to shout out DURING it), that they were expecting something a bit more simple and along the lines of the standard hollywood aliens/shoot \'em up fare - and ended up very disapointed.

I know doesn\'t it? The web on the building was so freaking awesome! I was never a big fan of X-men or Spiderman none of the comic book stuff but this movie looks to be like X-Men, which kicked ass too.

I saw it tonight and I can\'t say I was overly impressed. While some characters looked beyond awesome (Dr.Sid is an example) others was completely lacking. The voice acting at times was medicore and what humor it had fell flat.

The scene elements was somewhat cliche\' and the story itself seemed to "dumbed down". It had potenial for a great story, and the overall scope was good. But, the story seemed as if it was hundred pages long and then was forced to be a five page read.

CGI rating : 8 out of 10.
While the backgrounds always looked awesome and so the did the lighting. Some characters just lacked in alot of areas. While watching it I couldn\'t help but stare at how great Dr.Sid looked and then look at another character like Jane and how bland she looked.

Story: 5 out of 10.
Complex story dumbed down beyond belief, in my opinion. Seemed very forced also. It goes beyond the average viewer who just wants eyecandy, but doesn\'t substain the viewer who wants more from it. It just falls inbewteen the two. Decent, but it seems very forced as I already said.

Overall : 7 out of 10.
Better then this year\'s Tomb Raider but still a big dissapointment. It is funny when a a movie that talks about Spirits, has the word "SPIRIT" in its title and it based off a series that is known for its "spirit" , actually lacks any spirit itself and that is the big factor with Final Fantasy :  The Spirits Within. No part of it is compelling. You never care for any of the characters.
Decent flick, but nothing special. The cinema was very small and almost empty so I am assuming that the movie isn\'t attracting alot of viewers either.

I saw it yesterday 6/14/01 and i thought it sucked a$$ no offense but it was waaay over hyped (by my friends who\'ve seen it coughVIVIcough the graphics on the other other hand were really nice the old guy looked real but as for the story line square soft could have done better....

Well I finally got around to seeing it today and I absolutely loved it. Being the skeptic that I am, I expected the worst, but wound up surprised. ... Not in the mood for any in-depth comments, I\'ll just say that I hope it does better @ the box-office than I think it will.

i agree with you totally

for me the biggest thing was the story - the characters mainly - i wanted to know more about them - all i knew about them from the movie were little insights - but those were not enough for me to like or feel for the characters in anyway - and if you can not relate to any character in a movie then most likely you will nmot like it

well, work on the sequal has already started...so as long as that makes a lot of money...and we get more (i thought it was supposed to be a trilogy) it\'ll all be sweet

i dont see how Tomb Raider, such a linear, boring action cash in on a videogame, can gross more than something that is artistic, hyped up to the max, and an even bigger videogame...then again, the movie hasnt been released in Japan yet has it?  

Hopefully I have enough viewing time to write a review about it..
