Nintendo\'s strategy.
« on: July 14, 2001, 07:25:23 AM »
I\'m beginning to see how Nintendo plans to tackle Japan by storm. As you know, Spaceworld is 50 days away with the GC launch right on its heels. During Spaceworld, Nintendo will reveal everything they\'ve kept hidden for 3 years. How will the modems and ethernet adapters work and cost?? What are Nintendo\'s online plans, the mysterious Nintendo-online?? Just when the hell is Yamuchi going to retire (or hopefull die...) ?? But more importantly, the NDA\'s will be shed from all the major developers. Here\'s a brief list of the number of games confirmed for the GC:

Capcom - 7 (2 being Mickey and RE0)
Namco - 2 (possibly Soul Calibur 2 and Ridge Racer)
Koei - 2
Acclaim - 5
EA - 10
Sega - 10
Nintendo - 12
Camelot - 1 (possibly Shing Force)
Tecmo might comment on Ninja Gaiden.
Square might comment on FFXI.
Konami might mention their plans, if any, for the GC.
Plus the other 100 games in the making by minor dev\'s.

I\'m sure we\'ll be in for other surprises that I can\'t even begin to conceive right now. Nintendo is extremely underrated. Half the industry is skeptical about their success, and many of the public ridicules their lunchbox console and Fisher Price controller. But it\'s always better to be underestimated, then be overestimated. When Nintendo unleashes everything they have, the public will acknwledge their prescence and will be excited about the GC, with the news hitting them so suddenly and unexpectedly. And what better time to launch the console less than a month later, when everything is fresh on people\'s minds?? As well as hype making explosive tides. If Nintendo can pull this off successfully, they will make an immense impact before this year ends.

Bleh, while all this talk about all their 3rd party information being revealed at Speaceworld, I\'m more excited to see what games will be displayed there.

Hopefully Metroid will shock the world by actually being a great looking game. A showing of the next installment of both the acclaimed Mario and Zelda series will be there. God I want to see those two soooooo badly...
RE:0 will be there I heard. Maybe the next Perfect Dark will be there. And last but not least, here\'s to hoping Too Human makes an appearance at Spaceworld as well.

Has Nintendo actually stated that they are going to show their online plans this Spaceworld?  Because I don\'t think it\'s going to happen.  They have said that they will watch the PS2 and Xbox online plans, and if they are successful, they will also go online (I\'ll go find a source).  I doubt if they go online before NEXT fall (2002).  We will find out in 50 days though. :)

Read this: http://cube.ign.com/hardware/232.html

Both adapters are being built and supplied by Conexant. The high-speed broadband adapter will work in conjunction with the console to allow platform owners to connect to an online network where they will be able to trade data and play games online.

Unlike the slower modem, the broadband adapter would enable fast-paced data transfer for use in speedy multiplayer action games and titles that support large numbers of players (ie: massively multiplayer online games). Nintendo has not announced its Internet strategy, but sources say the strategy is very solid and not something Nintendo has glanced over.

"[Gamecube] will combine Nintendo\'s world-class design and beloved franchise characters with the expansion of the world of gaming by an online network," commented Genyo Takeda, Nintendo\'s corporate director and general manager of integrated research and development. "We are also excited about working with Conexant to bring broadband connectivity to our powerful new gaming platform."

Its not something that the company is glancing over, they are going for a huge online strategy is what it looks like.

JediMaster, thanks for the info.  I found some info too, which kind of contradicts that info.  This is not what I was looking for, but it will do for now until I find the thing I\'m looking for.

As for the network strategy, Satoru Iwata, Nintendo Corporate Limited\'s director and general manager of corporate planning, tells us, "If we can find a way to come up with a network system that\'s going to support a worldwide audience, and be sustainably profitable, then we\'ll definitely go in at that point.  But right now we feel that we\'re a profitable company offline, and there\'s no need for us to run to the online market to try to boost our profits at this point."

That is why I don\'t think Nintendo will be showing online stuff this Spaceworld.  It might happen eventually, but not this year (IMO).

I am convinced of Nintendo\'s online plans at SpaceWorld. Remember, Fantasy Star Online 2 comes out in.. December I think. That means that they either need to use Sega Net, or have their own system up. I wouldn\'t worry though, either way, GameCube is going to be online soon.

Personally, I only care to see RE:0 for the GC and maybe Metriod for the GBA. Those are the two games that excite me.

My best of my favorites are Rogue Leader, Super Smash Brothers Melee, and Crazy Taxi. But thats just my top 3 for the first 2 months its out in. SSBM may not have any blood, and may have an E rating, but that game will just have a multiplayer fun factor that is very hard to top.

I agree with IronFist because I two read a simular article saying that nintendo will do a wait and see thing. And seeing psov2 is supose to run off of sega.net That almost confirms nintendo will just wait and see.

What I can get out of this though is that Nintendo does have a huge online plan, but do not want to use it if internet gaming flops on consoles, so they have a strategy, just might not use it.
