Bill Gates is so full of it.........

Last night on its earnings conference call, Microsoft gave its outlook for X-Box sales. Previously, the only guidance Microsoft has given was that it expected to launch with 600,000 to 800,000 units and sell 1.0 to 1.5 million from launch through the end of the holiday season. Microsoft now says that they expect sales of 4.5 to 6.0 million for the fiscal year ending in June 2002. This number is above most Wall Street expectations. Additionally, they also confirmed that the X-Box will initially negatively impact margins.

I dont think Xbox will make a big impact here or anywhere else..
They way i look at it is the PS2 is now cranking up the AAA tiltles..On top of that Gamecube is coming out this year with alot of AA tltles also.. What does Xbox has? DOA3? hehe..most people rather wait for Tekken 4 and VF 4...

So.....what is the big point what should he have said. We expect to sell very..very low. We don\'t expect are hardware to sell or software...GEE man it just normal business practice.

You should really get over your hatred for guy you don\'t even know.

4.5-6.0 mil by June \'02 does sound a little flighty.

So how much $ does Gates get from each console sale?

Is the xbox even making money from console sales?  I remember hearing that PS2 made hardly/no $ off of consoles.

What?  I didn\'t know the NGC was going to have any AAA titles on launch.  You can\'t really call Luigi\'s Mansion or Pikmin, or any other NGC launch game an AAA title because you have no idea what they are going to be like.

I don\'t think it sounds that unreasonable... perhaps they\'ll be able to pull it off.

As someone else here already pointed out, what did you expect them to do? Say "We expect Xbox to sell 1 million consoles over the course of 6 years?"

This is a company which has stockholders and competitors. Going out and not saying high estimates in this case would have shown a lot of insecurity from them and therefore quite possibly hurt them.

It\'s not arrogance, it\'s normal business practice.

Not that I think Xbox will sell this much in the time period stated. Though I guess it is possible; we\'ll have to wait and see, as always.

i think that theyre commercials will be the first to hipnotize people into getting their system ;)

but i still think the estimates are too high, oh well, if they show confidence, peoplple will believe it.:thepimp:

"You can\'t really call Luigi\'s Mansion or Pikmin, or any other NGC launch game an AAA title because you have no idea what they are going to be like."[/b]

um *scoffs* wrong!

Pikmin is a Miyamoto product.  When was the last time he made anything less than stellar?  Luigi is to the GC what Mario64 was to the N64.  This is the premier game at launch and will definitely be the biggest AAA title on the system for quite some time.

It doesn\'t matter.  The mainstream mass has already proven that you don\'t need a stellar lineup of softwares to sell a system.  It is all about hype, and given the financial position Microsoft is in, they can overhype their product and sell as many as they want.  The Xbox will be a success.  Trust me.

In America, they could do it. Around the world, good luck MS!

But with some of Sega\'s best games behind them, I\'m hoping it\'s a success. I want to see Panzer Dragoon 5, JSR3, etc.
