Nintendo, Microsoft give up
« on: July 24, 2001, 07:19:17 AM »
How does anyone clame that they are going to beat playstation 2?  I heard that there are 15 million units sold.  With 15 million units allready out how are they going to steal the market.  Especially with GT3, Final Fantisy 10, and backward compatable.  I\'d like to see anyone compete with that.  Just look at the prized dreamcast, and the more powerful 64.

But all the fun\'s in trying. Would you rather that Nintendo and Microsoft just give up now and not sell their consoles? If your answer is yes, would you mind paying $80 for a PS2 game and $400 for the console, which is exactly what a monopoly would get you?

Dreamcast was sooooo much better than PS2 when PS2 was launched. Now it isn\'t IMO. Same could be done here. You can\'t make a judgement just like that.

DC = more powerful than N64, idiot.

Also, Genesis had quite a headstart for the 16-bit years, and it is debateable whether it won or not. The point is, it doesn\'t matter what comes out first people will always flock to the one with the most advertising.

MS is pumping 500 million bucks into JUST advertising.

Sony has a responsibility to the 3rd party developers to make sure their game sell or at least have a ghosts chance in hell.  $80-90 games have no chance of selling. And Knowing Square they\'d try to justify someone paying $90 for FFXI and a monthly fee.

You can\'t really base PS2\'s victory on numbers, against two consoles that are not even out.

Just because, yes, the PS2 has 15,000,000 units sold, this does not knock Nintendo, or Microsoft out of the ring. A lot of people already have PS2\'s(and a lot don\'t), and some of those people will either buy a Cube or an X-Box based on what kind of titles they want, that they can\'t find on the PS2(if I were them I would buy a Cube, because it offers awsome titles such as Luigi\'s Mansion, RS:RL, and Eternal Darkness).

I\'d say Cube has won in this respect considering ther are a lot of PS2 fans who hate the X-Box. But, there are a lot who like it, so in the end, you have to look at what more gamers want, as time goes on.

What gamers want is Mgs2, GT3, FFX, Devil May Cry, and others like them.  The ps2 isn\'t missing much by not having Luigi\'s mansion.

Microsoft and Nintendo\'s continuance in the market will push the industry further and make it better IMO

Maybe the PS2 anbd Sony will remain on top, but without Nintenod and MS they\'d sit back and get fat and lazy

With MS and Nintendo SOPny can\'t afford to be sloth like, and must always look  for ways to improve to stay on top

In SOny\'s defense they are up to the task

Ah, yes, Kenny. Your, always underestimating the games made by Nintendo....

Gamers want GOOD games, not just games that are on the PS2. Miyamato has been pouring day and night into Luigi\'s Mansion.......with that, I think we\'re in for something revolutionary. Especially since Nintendo always changes the industry in a new way, when they launch a console (or a Mario Bros. related game at that), why should they stop with the launch of GC?

Miyamato knows when the game is perfect, if it\'s not going to change the way we look at games, he will not release it. He knows what will go over big with gamers, and what will not. He knows what needs to stay, and what needs to go....Come November 5th, we will look at games a lot differently.:D

Ignorance is truly bliss, I guess.

For the record, none of us can read into the future and anything can happen in the future. The Xbox could be a runaway success. Nintendo could bring back their legacy. Or Sony could maintain the lead. Its all possible. Thats the beautiful thing.
Sheesh

Well no console ever wins in the first year.  It is not a secret the PS2 is a runaway hit, but then again so was the N64.  Every console, from SNES to PSX usually "wins" in their 4th - 5th year.

If you ask me, if its anything the PS2 is in the worse position out of the three.  They have the least powerful hardware, the hardest platform to develope for, and no real killer franchises other than their first party stuff (which are few).  Couple in with the expensive add ons, I think it will be hard for them to break into online gaming, thus the system will not be the first choice for online content.  Since Nintendo will not forego this venture, they will be safe in their own little corner making money off of little kids and such.  A big userbase or not, Sony definitely has a lot to worry about.

I should of expected that.

Nintendo could appeal to the mature auidences. Do I think they will? No. But there is always that chance. That is all I was sayin\'.
