Both of the names are at the left.

they were both in special large cases.

Of course Sony has done no wrong, though. After all, they are Sony!

praise Sony!

I cant see if the SEGA case is just like the PSX one.. With some grid with on the left side..

I have never seen that PSX-type box before.. We have the small (but fat) plastic boxes here.

This is stupid. They both come in DVD cases. Does it matter where they put the Xbox logo? On top ? On the left? So on and so on. NO! It doesn\'t.

Your disguised "X" in the background would not work. People would not realize it is for the XBOX. People are stupid, for the most part. So, they do it the safe way and the now standard way. Put it on the top of the box.
Its that simple.

Sheesh.

Though, I\'ll give you it looks like crap.

The background X idea would simply not be as effective as what they have now. Show me something that\'s both more effective and has never been done before, and I\'ll give you a cookie.

I wouldn\'t be surprised if Nintendo did the same (include their logo and such at the top of the case). They are using standard DVD cases afterall.

I liked the old school PS boxes. The ones with the plastic rugged edge and when you opened it up, there was a sweet backround under the disk and a huge instruction booklet with even more art behind that....how times have changed. Anyway, who cares if they "copied" the idea. If I was microsoft, i would be more worried about getting the system out with good games then spend a huge budget on designing a whole new box idea. who cares.

Its all about production simplicity and cost, pretty much the exact same design accept one image vs having completely different face designs.

Isn\'t that box just a mock-up? I thought it was, maybe I\'m wrong, but I don\'t ever remember hearing about XBox completed covers.

Yeah, I think it is too. Perhaps the \'real\' ones will look like that also, but I\'m not sure. I guess we\'ll just have to wait.... again.

basically, the xbox is just the result of sony ****ting themselves at the thought of sony controlling the gaming industry again.
i don\'t own any sony consoles, but i\'d definitely take ps2 over the xbox..
however, ms aren\'t really experienced in the gaming industry, so of course they\'d copy sony somehow..

It\'s understood that the outside packaging is what grabs consumer\'s attention, but it\'s what is inside that is the most important thing, so the subject of this thread seems a little trivial. I don\'t think it\'s going to be that big of a deal with gamers, maybe just the ones that are looking to nitpick. Personally I wouldn\'t care if the games came in a brown paper bag with the name in front written in magic marker, I\'m going to be playing the disk inside not the box it came in.

*Yaaaawn*

Sony takes after Sega by releasing a black console.

Nintendo takes after Playskool by releasing a lunchbox.

MS takes after (Any electronic manufacturer) by releasing a VCR.

What a lame and pointless debate.

What\'s next? Whining and complaining about how Sony released their console in the Fall and MS and Nintendo are just taking after them?
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
