Soul Caliber 2 confirmed for GCN

Taken from IGNCube
IGNcube is finally able to confirm that Namco Entertainment will release Soul Calibur 2 for Nintendo GameCube. The company will make an announcement about the fighting franchise sequel at Nintendo\'s Space World pre-show press conference on August 23 in Tokyo, Japan.

The original Soul Calibur was released first for arcades and then massively updated and enhanced for Sega\'s Dreamcast console two years ago. The franchise quickly became a favorite amongst hardcore fighting fans due to its intricately detailed graphics and complex, varied play mechanics. Soul Calibur remains one of the only games to simultaneously receive a perfect score of 40 by Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu Weekly and a perfect 10 rating by IGN.

Earlier this year Namco representatives confirmed that a sequel to Soul Calibur, tentatively dubbed Soul Calibur: The Next Chapter was underway for arcades, but no specifics regarding console launches were released. Interestingly, the arcade version has long been rumored to be under development using Namco\'s System 246 hardware, an architecture based on Sony\'s PlayStation 2.

Details regarding the GameCube version of Soul Calibur 2 are nonexistent at this point, but insiders at Nintendo of America suggest that it is very early on. With that, Namco is likely only to release arcade media of the game in action during the pre-show announcement next week.

Regardless, the addition of Soul Calibur 2 to GameCube\'s library immediately propels the system as an attractive buy to fighting fans everywhere and disproves speculation that third-parties will avoid releasing 3D brawlers for the console based on its controller design.

IGNcube contacted Namco for comment, but the company did not return our calls in time for publish.
Thoughts? Raslant? :thepimp: :thepimp: :thepimp: :D

Excellent. Yet another reason to be satisfied with my upcoming GC purchase. I can\'t wait to see what Namco is capable of on a even more powerful system. I just hope they weren\'t originally doing it on system 246 and decided to port to GC. I hope it\'s built on the GC from the ground up.

Good news.  I\'ll probably pass on the Gamecube version, however, and pick up the one coming to the PS2 instead.  The GC controller intimidates me a little when I imagine using it for a game like SC.

wait a minute...is it coming out for ps2 first?
and if so, will the gamecube version have extra features or hidden characters?...i dont like to buy games 2x just for better graphics....and i would assume that it would look better on the gc because of the higher quality of textures and bump maps...

Well now there is another reason for me to get a GC, IF it doesnt come out on PS2. Since its being programmed on 246 it should come out for PS2. But if it doesnt then I have to buy a gc.

I saw this coming.  I think the NGC controller design is perfect for SC2, so I don\'t know what IGN was talking about when they said, "and disproves speculation that third-parties will avoid releasing 3D brawlers for the console based on its controller design."  The NGC controller looks like it sucks for Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and Street Fighter, but it looks great for SC2 and DOA.

If it also comes out on the PS2, then this won\'t mean very much for the NGC.  But if it is an NGC exclusive (please no), then this will help the NGC a whole lot.

Kick ass. I would imagine the port will also have extra features because we all know how Nintendo likes to force third party developers into throwing something extra in their versions of the game (I point toward Mortal Kombat Trilogy as an example).

Either way, this is great news.

Well I am not fully sold on the gamecube bad yet. It just look like it is a fighters nightmare.....but this rumor was brought here before and mostly everyone here said it would not happen..but now it does everyone is saying yeah i saw it coming..Well I was already getting a gamecube...and soul calibur is great game but I will have it on ps2 first...my interest still lye in other gcn software.

I mean it going on ps2....that makes it less important to me for gamecube. I think it would have been excellent if namco could have announced a brand new fighter for gamecube..but we all know how unorigonal namco is...but this will give fans of the franchise something to think about when purchasing there next console.

I\'m not one of those people who say, "Oh yeah, I knew that would happen," when I really didn\'t.  When the rumor of a Namco fighting game was coming to the NGC, we had a thread descussing what game it would be.  I said it was probably going to be SC2.
From this thread, http://194.47.16.181/forums/showthread.php?threadid=10626&highlight=Namco+Soul+Calibur I said:

Call me crazy, but I think that the game is Soul Calibur 2. (Yes, this is coming from a PS2 lover. ) I think Namco will announce Tekken 4 for the PS2 the same time they announce Soul Calibur 2 for the NGC.

So I was right about the SC2 thing, just not about the timing. :)

Why is igncube the only one with this story?  Remeber when IGN confirmed TTT for Dc, TTT and RR5 for gamecube.  None of those games ever came out.  As far as this goes why hasn\'t namco confirmed the news yet?  Hopefully it won\'t come to gamecube.:thepimp:
